OnlyMe
pop Take a stroll down the magazine racks, pricing has rocketed there, to the point where I don't bother buying any more. £5 for a specialist title which is still 2/3 full of ads was the break point for me. I suppose my personal rate of inflation has dropped proportionately then.

Adam
another good type of item to watch is a standard size mars/bounty/snickers all around 33p. Don't these items just stay the same price but get smaller? A few less sheets on your bog roll, smaller monster munch, 10g less in your bag of crisps etc. Edited February 23, 2006 by Adam

Secondly, it would actually cost in the short term to do that, as it would require retooling of assembly lines and such. And thirdly, it would reduce their costs a little bit but that's not as helpful as increasing income. However, I have always suspected Cadbury's of doing this with their Creme Eggs, I remember the day when the things seemed the size of my head and now they're like a tiny quail's egg or a marble or something

They reduce the size slightly but keep the price the same, then they will discontinue the product and relaunch a new 'bigger' size that is more expensive. Does it not cost them a fortune messing around with production facilities? Then again I suppose a lot of their manufacturing equipment is v flexible to deal with making different lines in the one factory. They're really just using it as a sneaky way of putting prices up in the medium term though by your comment. Feckers
SarahBell
Stop talking about creme eggs. They're yummy. I remember a stamp being about 7p... when i was at primary school. Do stamps follow inflation or nu-inflation?

It does my head in when they change size, as few of the suppliers tell their customers. I only find out when someone says a different size has come in to what was ordered. The products that don't change size much are items in jars - standard jar accross the range. Usually, you will find the barcode changes if the size changes too. CaptainClamp
Stop talking about creme eggs. They're yummy. OK I will after this post, but apparently they've brought out a bar version of them! Haven't seen them yet but keeping an eye out And they can't be accused of inflation there since it's an entirely new product and there's no baseline, haha. - blatantly doomed attempt to make post relevant
cgnao
At last, it looks like the masses are now realising. Meanwhile, the global financial stability is at serious risks and the powers that be know: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/money/main.jhtm...20/cndebt20.xml the powerful Bank for International Settlements (BIS) has now voiced grave doubts about the policy and called on politicians to begin debating an overhaul of the current global economic system. In another radical move it has also suggested ditching many national currencies in favour of a small number of formal currency blocks based on the dollar, euro and renminbi or yen. The BIS, which is controlled by a coalition of central banks and helps oversee the global financial system, warned that by pushing interest rates so low, inflation targeting has encouraged the public to take on more debt and has accelerated a flow of money out of the world's major economies. Protect yourselves, buy gold while you still can.

Down with the BBC
sorry to go against my ethics, but a spanner in the works is required other wise the bulls will call foul play. cost of Nulabour vote 1997=1 '' '' '' '' 2006=worthless Wow maybe they'll add that to the Rpi (reasonably pointless index)
pop
unlike the gov/boe, who can't provide proof of low inflation, here is proof of massive price increases. (no pdf's either - pdf's are enough to convince anybody to kill the session because they are so slow - that's why they choose to use pdf's) scroll down.... then you can see change from 35 to 38p. might not be much, but it's much more than they (gov/boe) will ever give you. http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/front/ Edited February 23, 2006 by pop
