MattW
Kudos to North Norfolk District Council. However, I bet that local authorities are merely scratching the surface of similar complaints. Mouldy property in Cromer Quote Clementson, who failed to attend court for the hearing and failed to notify the court of her lack of attendance, was fined £3000, and ordered to pay the full investigative and prosecution costs totalling £1530. She was also ordered to pay £170 victim surcharge. £4,700 out of pocket. Landlords take note. Interesting to note that the landlady resides in Buckinghamshire. No mention of a Letting Agent being involved. How on Earth can a landlord 'manage' (for want of a better word) a property that's located over 100 miles away? Dorkins
So the Treasury gets £4530 and the tenant gets £170? And who's going to actually do the repairs? Edited April 12, 2018 by Dorkins
nome
What's most remarkable about this is that the story is so noteworthy that it's got it's own thread on here.... This kind of thing (fining slumlords) ought to be happening hundreds of times a day, every day!

This kind of thing (fining slumlords) ought to be happening hundreds of times a day, every day! Thanks. Stories like these should at least get top billing on local news programmes imo. Landlords need to be shamed when they don't play by the rules. I commented on another forum somewhere how the tragic fire in London last weekend was right down the list of 'headlines' and only a scant reference to it on Sky News. They seemed to think that Boris Johnson being mean to Jeremy Corbyn (ie: calling him a 'useful idiot') was more newsworthy than two men losing their lives.
