The state has created a situation where many younger people live in tiny houses where both partners work full time to pay the mortgage, making it almost impossible for them to provide reasonable care for elderly parents.

Indeed. There is no escape from the consequences of our collective actions. You suppress one group and there are various other iniquities created, some of which may not have been obvious at the time. The various bubbles and more extreme politics are just symptoms of a less productive economy and greed. We cannot have massive imagined wealth, be living longer, have the best national health care and load ever greater responsibility on younger age groups without paying enough for it. Debt doesn't really cut it I'm afraid. You don't get the best of anything by paying a middling price, even if that is a lot more than you are comfortable with.

Generational envy, politics: How and Why have we come to this stage?

Envy? I think not.

There are armies of folk in the UK earning in pensions & benefits what the current generation are earning in wages, for example....and they actually have gotten a retirement which the current ones will not.

Its an imbalanced society.

There is the line that all working people say " I have paid in all my life working from 16 to 65, why should I pay twice"

I do agree with this too a point,

Well, she got scammed.

Socialism is a con. Boomers getting drawn in hook, line and sinker does not oblige you, I, or any of them who actually planned for retirement despite the Siren song of Socialism to bail them out.

It's tragic, but the choice is this: either the old suffer hardship ,or we allow them to consume the young.
