silver surfer
Interesting article, http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/divided-uk-for-every-12-jobs-created-in-the-south-one-is-lost-in-the-north-9986656.html But I guess it's a bit simplistic and obscures some significant local variations. After all, most of the Medway towns still look like Beirut where as I visited Manchester recently where I'd lived as a kid, I was expecting the same grim city I remembered but it was absolutely drop dead gorgeous. OurDayWillCome
Hardly North South Divide - the Midlands has a much larger population of deprivation than the North (England not Uk) and this constant North South talk is why the Midlands suffers such a lack of funding. Edit: Population not land. Edited January 19, 2015 by OurDayWillCome
Greg Bowman
Not kidding! Always loved Manchester worked there and my daughter is at Uni there. Now I know why it is London!
winkie
Maybe there are twelve times as many people in the south.....how much do you need to earn to call it a job?
Northerner
Bit chilly up North ... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/personalfinance/houseprices/10812771/House-price-heatmap-its-still-winter-in-the-regions.html
winkie
More room for improvement up North.....and the people on the whole are down to earth honest, caring and decent...no airs and graces, lots of snobs in some places.
Andy T
If that map had a zoom-in on Manchester/Cheshire, they'd be plenty of pink/red too see
