okaycuckoo
But the spending boosts the economy! They have another way of doing it in the US, where unemployment benefits actually promote job creation ... http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2011/08/10/carney_unemployment_benefits_could_create_up_to_1_million_jobs.html State economists are simply perverts. South Lorne
but it keeps going on, i wonder hoe David will come down on these state looters? ...let's face it ..it will be a good way of reducing the numbers in the civil service for anyone who has abused the system....and if it's serious fraud ..Mr Clarke better move his posterior and open more jails.... South Lorne
The same way they came down the MPs that were looting before. ......a jailed labour MP had his £3,000 rolex watch stolen from him in jail the other day ..he had it locked in a cabinet ..imagine the gall taking into jail in the first place...if fraud is proved they could be convicted also... in other words using the card for their unauthorised personal use without reimbursing.... pl1
The Cabinet Office don't approve of releasing "backdated data"? Can Joe Public say that to HMRC now then?

crash2006
...if there's fraud ...they may have no choice.... They never do it, there will be an excuse or ancient clause from 1200s or something like that.
bajista
Sorry, but whay does the fact that they used credit cards matter? Surely the mode of payment is irrelevant, it is the nature of the transactions that matter. And if the investigation is only looking at credit cards it is no doubt missing the amounts 10(0?) x these that were invoiced and paid for by cheque or bank transfer. geezer466
Yet another excellent example set to the youth of Britannia. With this MP's expenses and Banker excesses you would think they would get frustrated enough to riot!! Cameron had the gall on the TV the other day to say MP's were being punished (with some going to jail) over the issue. The plain truth is over 90% of them were 'at it' only the worst offenders have been jailed...... Any other industry and at a very minimum all of them would have lost their jobs.
