People with full time jobs need handouts to buy food at the end of the month because their wages don't cover it. Even slaves were guaranteed a meal for their work. But the state interferes if you try to build unapproved shelter, or grow some vegetables on unusued land, or moves you on and impounds the car you are sleeping in if the road tax has expired etc. etc. If the state is going to prevent you from opting out and feeding yourself when you cannot find an officially approved job, then the state has to feed you when their policies lead to a dearth of jobs . You cannot ethically have the former without the latter. The US is a perfect example of why a decent minimum wage is required and what society becomes when the Gini coefficient is allowed to run riot. Edited July 24, 2010 by Tiger Woods?
