  1. And of course those that choose not to buy spend the equivalent 20 years living in a big love commune, frolicking in sen-drenched meadows without a financial care in the world...
  2. Go for it, you're never going to get that in the UK for 68k.
  3. You should send complaints like this to BBC's newswatch, that way they've a chance of getting aired.
  4. Erm, I guess the thinking is that the kids should'nt have to suffer because of poor financial decisions made by their parents. Seems reasonable to me.
  5. I'm inclined to agree... more hassle then it's worth. And to be fair, the landlady did pay for underlay to be fitted in an attempt to solve the problem. She's quite reasonable actually, so i was going to ask whether she would consider letting us out early if she found a tennant that could move quickly. We're moving out the a week Saturday anyway, so it'll be empty.
  6. I always thought people on benefits were struggling along on the breadline, until a couple moved in below us. The day after they moved in they had new flooring laid throughout, cable t.v installed and a broadband connection (hardly living in poverty - especially as i live in one of the most expensive parts of Brighton). It hacks me off that I scuttle off to work everyday to subsidise their loafing around at home, getting drunk, ordering pizza, lifestyle. Something is very wrong. Christ i sound like a tory.
  7. Yep, it's a good thing it's rented. We woke up last Sat and decided we had to move fast, that afternoon we had a holding deposit down on another flat. To be honest money's not that important in this case, I just don't want my 7-month old son going to bed listening to the thug downstairs shouting 'you f***king evil wh*re' to his girlfriend. Even 2 weeks seems like way too long.
  8. Bugger. this is going to be an expensive move. Worth it though, as the people below are a complete nightmare.
  9. We came to the end of a 6-month contract and verbally agreed with the landlady to continue on a rolling contract basis where we have to give a month's notice before leaving. Well the neighbours from hell have moved in below us, so we have desperately found another flat and handed the notice in on ours. The landlady rang up today though to say that we have to actually give a months notice from our rent day, is this correct? There's no mention in our old contract, and it means we're going to end up paying pretty much double rent next month.
  10. I live in Brighton and asking prices have definately gone up since Christmas. A 2-bed terrace was 200-210k and are now going up for 220-230k. Sad thing is they are selling pretty fast. I don't understand whats going on.
  11. Strangely a house I was looking at in Brighton sold a couple of months ago for 205k. That obviously fell through, now they've gone and put it back up at 220k. What are they thinking?!
  12. They seem to be selling quite quickly (the good ones anyway). Not sure what price at though.
  13. I've noticed a bit of an increase in asking prices this month. For example, terraced houses in hanover all seemed to be around 200-210k before christmas, and now they keep coming up for 225k+.
