  1. Perhaps they are expecting any offers to be at least 20% below asking price. The easy answer is to offer 2007 price less 30% to 40% or wait a few years to achieve the same result.
  2. Perhaps it would be fair to ask that those in charge of media content should disclose the sources of their investment income.
  3. It just reinforces what I have said many times on this forum, you never really own a house.
  4. If you need to ask you're most likely middle class. Understanding "class" is like choosing a good piece of meat, you either can or you can't.
  5. In the current economic climate, when the government shuts 'duck', I jump, because it pays to do the opposite to what they want.
  6. That's about 3.75%. I was offered 4.5% by the company who held my pension pot in 2008. I shopped around and eventually got 7.5%, which means I'll have got my pot back in 13 years from the date the annuity started, 9 years to go and I'm in profit. It is essential to shop around, or you'll probably get ripped off, and with an annuity there's nothing you can do about it as it's 'set in stone'.
  7. We're still spending the same, but more of it is spent abroad. Money goes a long way in Spain .
  8. I try, but it's difficult because they breed beef cattle with no fat in the meat. These days it's almost impossible to find a nicely marbled steak .
  9. Why do you guys put up with this cruelty? Surely it's against (at least the spirit of) the Hippocratic oath.
  10. The only acceptable controls, in my opinion, would be to record the wishes of the person, before the onset of dementia, and act accordingly. I would be the first in the queue to register my wishes.
  11. That is the phase that I'm certain I would notice, as I am always on the lookout. I'm probably a bit young to get it yet, but whenever I forget something I give it a passing thought.
  12. Hopefully, my family will be good enough to point out it's existence, as I was able to do for my father.
  13. Not denial, preparation. My living will should ensure that I do not survive a major stroke. With regard to dementia, yes, there are many different types, but they all have early symptoms if you know what to look out for and do so.
  14. Rubbish, look at Terry Pratchett. Timely diagnosis is quite possible.
  15. The RSPCA would take you to court for letting a dog suffer but for humans the rule is the opposite. The courts would lock you up for doing what you suggest.
  16. We've discussed this before . Dementia is my greatest fear, what a dreadful way to go. If I see any early signs in myself I shall seek diagnosis and if confirmed, will take timely and decisive action. Perhaps many don't, but some do and I shall be one of them. The way the law stands in the UK it is necessary to act sooner rather than later.
  17. I have a living will, in case of accident or stroke etc, which forbids treatment to prolong my life, if there is not a high probability of a complete recovery, without my consent. With regard to self-preservation instincts, people go to Veritas of their own free will and I'm absolutely certain that, if necessary, I will.
  18. There is no way that I will end up in a care home and I will take whatever measures necessary to make sure of it.
  19. Labour used to bang on about "Tory sleaze". With the Torys it was usually about some odd (but harmless) sexual preference. With Labour it's always about pocketing taxpayers money .
