Casual Observer Posted October 20, 2006 Posted October 20, 2006 Bloody Boomers. If my parents weren't boomers I'd put a Jihad on your ar53 Boomers are great! We're the best generation there's ever been. We produced the best music, the best fashion. We stopped wars and changed society. Unfortunately the next lot got complacent - didn't bother to pick up the baton and carry on the good work Quote

abaxas Posted October 20, 2006 Posted October 20, 2006 Why does everyone hate the boomers. HPI has killed them off anyways. We will get the inflation which with destroy their assets, pensions, savings etc. They are better off now as long as they dont retire...... Quote
Casual Observer Posted October 20, 2006 Posted October 20, 2006 Started more wars than you stopped, plus f**ked up the environment. Great legacy! Well, now we're no longer young idealists of course we start 'em. But if you were as good as we were, you'd be stopping them! Too busy stabbing each other I suppose Why does everyone hate the boomers. HPI has killed them off anyways. GCS15 Posted October 20, 2006 Author Posted October 20, 2006 Come on - I'm full of booze and bad manners let's construct a case that makes out that we'd have been better off if the Nazi's won. My main argument stems from the fact that I had to pay for the right to work in a job that used to provide the education for "free" as well as provide you with a job at the same time. Now I've got a student debt and can't afford to buy a house to raise a family. All because of decisions made by boomers. Rest assured I will resent my taxes going towards your pensions. When I'm allright Jack I will have some thought for others. Until then it's about acquiring a house, raising a family and paying off my student debt. Why does everyone hate the boomers. HPI has killed them off anyways. We will get the inflation which with destroy their assets, pensions, savings etc. They are better off now as long as they dont retire...... And I won't give a toss. Priced out, in debt (student) have to think if I can afford to raise a family. Take their wealth. Take it all Quote

Well, my generation had difficulties with housing from time to time - ever heard of slums, other sub-standard housing, Rachmanism and homelessness? They weren't exactly a life-style choice, they were a necessity for most. As for higher education, the reality is that only the upper middle classes and above had it in any great numbers. It wasn't an option for most of the working class - it may have been "free" but most kids were expected to go out to work and bring in some housekeeping at the age of 15. Today any one can (and seemingly does) go to University. Progress I suppose, I don't resent it. We've covered this before, of course, but in a nutshell: Boomers got maintenance grants, then they took them away Boomers didn't have to pay tuition fees, then they imposed them Boomers got free dental care, then took it away Boomers got free eye tests, then took it away Boomers benefited from the NHS, now they're dismantling it Boomers got final salary pension schemes, then they closed them down Boomers just got luck with house prices. B*stards. Quote

Gen-X is a name that Boomers gave us. If it were up to me I'd have called us "Super fantastic generation X" (note that it is a capital X). Nancy Boys? Don't hijack my thread! It's anti-boomer Anyhow Boomers we've got Marilyn Manson and Nirvana what contribution did you ever make to music? Nothing that's what! Wait 'till we renege on the promise you made yourself to get someone else to pay your way *again* Then you'll be wearing your sad socks. Quote
Guest Cletus VanDamme Posted October 20, 2006 Posted October 20, 2006 One thing boomers and Gen-X/Y-ers will have in common is that most will die in some underfunded, understaffed 'care' home lying in their own effluent. One other thing boomers took away: respect for the older generation. Why? Boomers had it for their elders because their elders gave them so much (see my previous post). Gen X/Y have none for the boomers because they gave them nothing, only took away. Quote

Gen X/Y have none for the boomers because they gave them nothing, only took away. Sadly this is all to true. Having worked in an aged care facility and being a volunteer in other "care" facilities I can attest to the elderly being considered scrap until the day they died. Then all the grieving gold diggers came out of the woodwork crying crocodile tears casting sidelong glances at each other looking for thier cut. I had sympathy and felt anger at their plight. I've exhausted all that pity and anger so Boomers when you reach the same place I'll be remembering how you (as a generation) treated your parents, hero's cast aside  Sorry Boomers, your chance at brilliance has gone. Step aside and let the next generation have a shot at the title. I personally think that Gen-X don't have it in us, but then we did learn from the best Quote
muggle Posted October 20, 2006 Posted October 20, 2006 Had a similar conversation recently with the only two baby boomers I know - my dad and my boss. One thing Generation X have in their favour is that we know we are going to be screwed on our pensions - many boomers did not see that one coming! Quote

Guest Charlie The Tramp Posted October 20, 2006 Posted October 20, 2006 Now I've got a student debt and can't afford to buy a house to raise a family. So you have to pay for Uni fees in Australia as well. Quote
GCS15 Posted October 20, 2006 Author Posted October 20, 2006 If you were any good you wouldn't need us to step aside! Good point. Then again I'd rather kick you when you are down and out, not when you are at the pinnical of your power. . . . hmm makes me think. Maybe we are, as a generation, about to loot all your wealth just as you retire? I certainly won't be crying if it happens. Me me me me. That's the Boomer motto. Free love, until i've had my fill. Free education, till I've got my degree / trade. Free health care... well to be fair you've F$%ked that one - you are about to collapse the system. Quote
Bluechutes Posted October 20, 2006 Posted October 20, 2006 We weren't sheeple, going to Uni because it was expected of us. Boomers are the greatest. No, you went out to work at 15 because that's what was expected of you. Quote
GCS15 Posted October 20, 2006 Author Posted October 20, 2006 So you have to pay for Uni fees in Australia as well. Yep. Somehow no-one has put two and two together and seen that the reason why there is a nursing shortage is because of the training. And these clowns are supposed to be smart? Book smart and able to reference the fact yes, street smart? nope. My state is in the last stages of making Paramedic education uni based. They reckon they learnt from the mistakes made by the nursing profession. I assure you they have not. Quote

That's nothing, go down to your local town this evening, you'll see far worse. Anyway, it was 1964. Your generation has never known real war, that's why you take it so lightly.
