Fancypants
Open All Hours shop fails to sell A corner shop made famous by the BBC comedy classic Open All Hours has failed to sell at auction. The property on Lister Avenue in Balby, Doncaster, was the setting for the popular sitcom featuring Ronnie Barker. The shop, which has been a hairdressing salon for more than 40 years, failed to meet its reserve price at an auction at the Royal Armouries in Leeds. It was saved from demolition two years ago after campaigners fought off plans to bulldoze it. Open All Hours ran from 1976 to 1985 and featured Barker as tight-fisted grocery shop owner Albert Arkwright. The shop is now used as a hairdressing salon His long-suffering nephew Granville was played by David Jason. The shop, now called Beautique, was part of a lot which incorporates a ground-floor studio, a first-floor one bedroom apartment and a yard with an outside toilet. John Cox, area director for William H Brown, who offered the building at auction, said the final offer of £132,000 was not quite enough. He said he was hopeful of selling the property after the auction. "What we will do is talk to the people who bid and who did not reach the reserve and we'll see if we can strike up a deal." 'Bart'
G-g-g-granville, fetch yer cloth. Probably hoped that the TV tie-in would boost the sale price. But if the houses in Brookie Close won't sell, or that flat done out to look like the starship Enterprise, what hope for a hairdressers in Donnie. Now if Nurse Gladys still live opposite..... 'Bart'
Bart, you've lost your darkness. What happened. Evangelical awakening???? I tried to be all dark and brooding, but people just laughed. "Bart" is kind of homelier and (dare I say it) cuddlier.
