Record pay rises for BBC chiefs as jobs axed

By Rosie Murray-West, Business Correspondent

(Filed: 08/07/2006)

BBC chiefs have received record rises in a £3.7 million deal, despite presiding over falling audience figures and thousands of redundancies.
...../
Mr Thompson, who has outlined a three-year
cost-cutting strategy that will involve the loss of 6,000 jobs
, could have received even more money. But he waived his right to a bonus because he "would not have felt right" about accepting more money during a period of cuts.

Some big numbers to add to the continuing job loss tally. Looks like the bosses are doing okay, as the French would say:

Socialistes d' Champagne.

Bosses are doing what they are paid to do, streamline the business & increase profits.

As the GPO, if this involves new technology & person replacement, then it must be.

Maybe by streamlining they can afford better talent & increase viewing figures.

Are the bosses wages out of line with similar positions throughout the business world?

There has been more than one account from notaries comparing the overstaffing of BBC compared to other TV companies.

if they want private sector salary ask them to work in private sector(if they can get the job)

Damn right! Let the feckers compete on an equal basis and scrap the ridiculous TV tax.

Socialistes d' Champagne

I read a book about trading/speculating not so long ago. Best chapter title I have come across in a long while was,

"Economics: The way the world really works"

to me this was almost as profound as Ed Seykota stating, "Everyone gets what they want out of the markets". Took me a short while to understand what he meant, but it's so damn true.

I'm off to finish my beer.

;)

British Media is dying across the board - newspapers, TV, etc. The BBC is only immune to this because of the ENFORCED taxation on us to pay for it. IMPO this sounds like one last snout dip in the trough before the trough is pulled away forever.

With all the money that the BBC receives every programme should be gold the best quality in the World and the range of programming should be immense. It is not.
