Better late than never Obama. He's opened the door now to this issue. Trickle down is failing, its time to get redistributive up in here. If that proves to be too much then another solution will be offered, but at least the ball is rolling.

Relax

It'll never happen

President of the "free world" huh? Snigger

It isn't informational, it's garbage

Obama will struggle to get any new legislation through the Republican dominated Congress.

He's just another empty suit. The media says his approval ratings have improved but I don't believe that either. The only Americans who approve of Obummer are diehard liberal bedwetters.

Youre missing the point.

#cognitive dissonance

I guess I am

I don't understand what point you are trying to make

The fact that Obama now seems to believe that what the Americans call 'class warfare' is now a viable strategy for the democrats to adopt in the future is in itself an event of sorts- he is placing redistribution at the center of the debate- a non trivial act in a country were to be defined as a 'socialist' is seen as the political kiss of death.

Obama just called the Republicans, hiding behind their Wizard of Ozian curtain of low taxes and all that guff..

Completely wrong foots the Tories too who are on the wrong side of history at this juncture (and indeed since they last won an election in 1992).

1% may endure for a while but that brief experiment is ultimately doomed to failure. Lets hope its not too bl00dy.

The sentiment is laudable but the timing is lousy. If Barry truly meant it he'd have done more four/six years ago when the Dems held a majority in both houses. This won't even get into committee now let alone out of committee and on to the statute.

Should play well for Milli though, agreed.

Bermuda not happy - always a good sign

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-31231113

Bermuda has said it is "surprised and disappointed" to be included a list of places Ed Miliband says Labour would target in a tax avoidance clampdown.

Mr Miliband wants British territories such as Bermuda to be internationally blacklisted if they do not compile public registers of offshore firms.

But Bermuda's government said it had operated a central registry of companies since the 1940s.

Premier Michael Dunkley said it remained open to dialogue with the UK.

Mr Miliband has sent a letter to the leaders of the British Overseas Territories of Anguilla, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Turks and Caicos Islands, Gibraltar and Montserrat. He also contacted the Crown Dependencies of Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man.

He said that - under a Labour government - they would have six months to compile a register or face being put on an Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development list of "tax havens" list, incurring sanctions.

and the usual veiled threat

Mr Dunkley said: "The government of Bermuda remains open to continuing dialogue with the UK government, the UK opposition, and all other interested parties, in sharing best practice across borders in areas of corporate transparency, and the fight against fraud and crime.

"We would also remind Mr Miliband of Bermuda's strategic economic contribution to the UK, which includes direct and indirect employment in the UK of 100,000 people, as well as our role as a global hub for the reinsurance and insurance industries, providing the critical underwriting required for damage arising from natural disasters and terrorist events."
