Christmas Present Idea

I've just read this story about many Gift Cards being worthless, or not eventually being honoured.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-24868288

I have a collection of old unused gift cards for businesses i have no interest in frequenting, plus expired credit cards. They are very useful for scraping the fur of my tongue, so I hoard them.

i have had an idea. Making a fake Gift Card would be easy, requiring little more than some some fancy patterned paper and a laminator. You would get instant kudos at Christmas by doling them out to everyone at family reunions. By the time the hated relative/ aquaintance got round to trying to use them and discover it is worthless, they will have forgotten who gave it to them anyway.

So my idea is a credit-card-shaped punch, which can be used to punch fake credit-card sized 'gift' cards out of laminated wallpaper.

It, in itself, could be given as a gift. But there is an inherent problem.

My dilemma is that, in it's limited way, for making fake gift cards for transient Christmas kudos, it would actually have genuine utility. I would not want to give anything worthwhile to my relatives.

How about a bottle of Tesco Whisky? Kids love it in Coke, and it sort of makes Christmas, along with the orange, and the lump of coal!

Also, a boozy aunt is always amusing on Boxing Day!

Well don't buy them anything.

Or get them bleach and paracetamol.

Tell me more about the coal!

my mum always had a lump of coal handy for first-footing, another tedious ritual my older brother was put through each New Year.

You could gently open up one end of a Christmas cracker and stuff it with monopoly money, money off vouchers, 5p off a litre petrol tickets and old supermarket till receipts buy six get one for twice the price bonus stamps...arrange neatly at the table next to the appropriate person and tell them their gifts from you is in their cracker, been saving up all year. ;)
