Catch22
Because our economy is based solely on selling houses to each other at higher and higher prices, selling coffee, cutting hair and trading shares, while the EU still makes stuff and America still makes some stuff that they can sell to other people? Plus, just to make it worse, we're currently going from an oil exporter to an oil importer and will need to import plenty of money to compensate. Exactly my take on our economy....plus we are into arms manufacturing and exporting...oh and a bit of mercenary killing for the White House on the side.......but apart from that little else I'm afraid...... Guest Charlie The Tramp
Blair rules out joining euro until at least 2010 Larry Elliott, economics editor Friday April 29, 2005 The Guardian Tony Blair yesterday effectively ruled out Britain joining the euro before at least 2010 when he said membership of the 12-country club would not be in the national interest. In comments seen by both supporters and opponents of the single currency as ruling out UK entry for the next parliament, the prime minister stressed that it was unlikely the economic conditions would be right at any time soon. Definitely the Governments favoured option - join the Euro, that is. Five years is a long time both for economies and politics. Who knows we may witness countries withdrawing from the Euro for their own self interests

I'm sure the majority of UK politicians are secretly hoping that the whole experiment will unravel thereby freeing them of the decision of whether to go in or not.
