The Ayatollah Buggeri
My goodness - there are 468 properties for sale within 1 mile of those houses !! And Peterborough is just within sane commuting distance of London, as well (though the price of a season ticket must be horrific).

libspero
In both Peterborough and Cambridge schools would be a big factor although I presume both the Peterborough examples would feed to Jack Hunt I guess. The race factor would be a factor for me in Peterborough as some areas v segregated. I would struggle to find anywhere that I would want to live in Peterborough itself and there is only one school I would want my kids to go to. It does not surprise me that Dogsthorpe has low prices. Kings school by any chance? Small world.. Edited June 8, 2011 by libspero

man o' the year
Yes Kings of course. I worked in Pbro from 2001 to 2006. Didnt live ther tho - lived closer to Cambridge.
man o' the year
Anyone beat 468 for sale in 1 mile radius anywhere? I see it has plunged to 467 today. I have to say I am astounded at that figure. There is parkland and colleges and schools within that area and catchment for Thomas Deacon Academy which would be a desirable school for some (not me!), so the percentage area of housing is not as high as might be. Percentage up for sale must be much higher than average.
Warwick-Watcher
You an ex Petriburgian too...? Me too! I agree with the sentiment of living in Peterborough now though. Area around Kings is ok (Broadway, Park Road, Park Crescent etc. Then the posh bits - the old Ortons, Thorpe Park Roak, bits of Longthorpe. Otherwise move out to a village to the west of the city and drive in (in your armoured car!) as infrequently as possible!
man o' the year
A search of data shows 1 in 28 houses for sale in PE1 which is more than twice what I see in areas I watch. Mouse price shows owned house stock = 9546+4426=13972 which is 54.14 +25.10 = 79.24 of total So total housing stock = 17632 Mouseprice Rightmove has 654 - 14 commercial properties for sale = 640 1 in 27.55 BTL exodus? No wonder prices there are dropping. Edited June 9, 2011 by man o' the year
the stig
Peterborough is a strange place. I spent time living near it in my teens. In theory it has everything you could want - not too big, not too small, excellent road network around the city, sub-1hr on the train to london, good schools, lovely country park to the west of the town, two golf courses within a mile of the city centre, sailing club, rowing club, the list goes on and on. However, some bits to the east of the city are quite rough, though probably not as rough as the nicer parts of some bigger cities (leicester or nottingham for example). It doesn't seem to register as existing to some people though - i've never, ever seen it on the BBC's weather map for example.
the stig
http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-28465960.html This is in one of the most desirable streets to the west of the city and it hasn't sold and is going to auction. In an area surrounded by a country park, walkable to the Orton Meadows golf course, and just off the A1. Why did they not drop the price by more sooner?! I miss it; the roads I believe have the highest average speed in Europe thanks to the well-thought out parkways. They do however say that it has very little culture for a city of it's size. Others say it has rather too many cultures, ahem. It started going downhill early 90s IMO, until then I really liked the place. The odd racially motivated murder does not help. I'm sure the clash between the asian and eastern european communities means that being white-english is quite safe now! What i would say is that the nightlife is dire, or at least it was a few years ago last time i went back. As a teenager it used to be very good but has gone downhill since then. Make the trip to cambridge once in a while if you want that. According to a mate that lives there the city centre has just been done up and now looks quite nice for shopping but there are a few "fake" shops and council funded places trying to make it look less empty. libspero
You an ex Petriburgian too...? Never lived there.. but went to Kings (6th form only) so know the area quite well. Can't say I'd want to live in the centre particularly.. but there are some fairly ok villages around that way from memory.
