  2. <ramble> What you are saying here is fair IMHO. For life reasons you want a house. It is also scary - trying to get the mortgage on two salaries coz you wont get much etc.. this smacks of overpricing and illustrates the desperation that people are in. Rent/mortgages are always quite a lump to come up with and most of us know this only too well. People want to lie/almost lie about what they earn to get a house as in self cert and the example you ave just given. This must come home to bite people at some point as thats why there is credit control in the first place. Just so you are aware - I am not having a go - I just think its a sad state of affairs that we have to be all 'guilty' before we walk out the door. </ramble>
  3. I have an IPOD and I ahve bought two cheap mp3 players for my daughter before getting her an IPOD the £20ish mp3s are sh*te and IPODS arent that dear £50-£200. They can hold more the bigger they get etc.. I suppose it could be showing off but I really cant see how listening to my audio book in the car instead of a boot changer is showing off. I drive a part german car as well. A SEAT because a) I can't think of an english car( that I can afford) German cars are reliable. c) Arent most cars german at some point anyway - fords were built in germany,BMW,vws,audis,seat,skoda - what does that leave ALfas and SAABs??? - arent vauxhall's german as well?
  4. Nah IPODS are great - but they are the single biggest cause of me not being able to buy a house. With an Archos you are just taking the P*ss you will be destitute. Anyway both my xda,laptop and phone have got wifi - Archos smarchos. Liked I said earlier don't use ITUNES use ANAPOD explorer.

I talked to someone who worked at a toymakers and they said that they advertise these things heavily before christmas to stifle supply - then the parents buy something else for little Johnny as a holding present then buy said heldback pressie in Jan. Jan is a dead time for toy companies apparently - as you might expect. I don't know whether anyone else here can verify their 'dirty' tricks - it would be great to expose them Personally I want an xbox 360 but I am not paying £300 for one - I will wait for the PS3 to beat its price down or buy a laptop or a Wii when people are bored. i think I have become old
  7. I looked at Lot 55 for the latest Auctions Lewes Road Brighton and it didn't sell at £111k. Reserve was £112k. If you had £12k of deposit your mortgage of £100k @ 5% would be £591.27 repayment and £416.66 IO See BBC calculator: Auctioneers say £6600 income (no voids etc..) which equates to £550 a month That is a £40 loss every month in the hope that prices might rise. If you assume say: Mortgage repayments = £7100.40 10 months income = £5500 Total loss pa = £1600.40 Loss of £40k over 25 year mortgage plus a £112K flat (with HPI) = £72k + HPI + 25 years of agg. Its the HPI gamble i suppose but it doesnt make money at the outset and it didn't sell - so there is a ceiling - yay yay yay - people just wont buy any old thing. I don't remember the yield calc BTW.

  9. The one thing IPODs missed here is that they connect into loads of other bits (and not throught the headphone socket). There are dockstations and I use mine in the car with a native interface. You can keep all your archos players and IPOD fakes Although I do like the big screen on the archos with the record the TV function. My IPOD has a chrome back though wooooo
  10. On a slightly different tack. It doesnt matter too much if you work more hours, if everything else is done for you. Cleaner, shirts ironed, presents to family, holidays organised etc. Can I pick and choose???
  11. Use anapod explorer. Itunes is evil. The data will all be on the IPOD and can be seen as a removable drive. I love my IPOD - I like the look of Apple equipment. I would have one if I won the lottery - they look nice I would still have about 20 pcs before I got a mac, they are an interesting experiment.

  14. I am surprised because it is 100k more than a place just literally round the corner. The place around the corner looks flipped to me as well. The place is in quite a pleasant area most of the day - outside of the rush hour and learner drivers - argghh. You are right I should laugh but its the kind of thing I would like to get with the g/f and it gets tedious after a while the going up bit. Just when you thought it was too high they raise by another £100k
  15. I wanted to buy this house - it was on at £250k. I did a previous post about it. The lunacy goes on. Still I wouldnt mind picking it up for £200k now its done up - its prob only worth £180k - £150k to build it and a plot of land £30k. I'll pay the extra £20k for their efforts. Also whilst I am ranting - I can buy a 3 bed round the corner for £300k - still too dear or rent a nice mock tudor one for £1200 nearby - which they cant rent either. Utter madness.

  17. We started looking a property to rent in the Bramber area(nr Brighton) and whilst looking we saw a plot of land for £9kish. The company UPA (die die die) have bought up a parcel of land near the steyning by-pass and the river Adur. They have split it into 200+ parcels and put forward a proposal to Horsham District Council to include it in the Local Development Framework. This has already failed, 2004 I believe. Their sales literature mentions greenness,key workers,affordability amogst other things. The reality is that it is on a floodplain pure and simple and that is why HDC turned it down. They are still selling the land now and people are buying this land with hope. Now there will be some greedy people(aka investors) but I am sure there are some FTBs who would have thought this a good idea. Apart from the floodplain the company has never built anything and in my opinion is just speculating with their plans. The plans are also unworkable with nor turning around areas in the road no green play areas. Also there is no mention of the lake they are putting forward to help out with flood defenses - ffs. They were apparently in private eye - I cant find the doc though. Please don't spam this with a load of Caveat Emptor etc..   18. I say bring back y2k without the dip, I want the £40 per hour again. o the hope. I lost it all at the end of 1999 and I am only gnats boll*ck away from seeing some of the same money as a project manager with 18 years of ICT experience. I dont even earn half Y2k money ATM. I have been back to uni now which was good for me and my brain. In fact what I want is the £40 per hour + real inflation(10% p.a.) and to go back and do my masters/doctorate yay yay. UNI was so much more pleasant than the office - o and my own bleedin house
  19. A real price is inflation adjusted. A nominal price is the actual price one paid for something. I always forget this. My old house would have been worth £137k roughly(or near that) if I bought it now taking into account inflation which is the real price but the nominal price was £94k.
