As a follow up to a previous poster I am interested what HPC members want. Personally I would lilke fuel prices to rise dramatically an the proceeds put into alternative transport fuels for both public and private conveyances.

For pensioners with capital i.e. a property there is no pension top up benefit. And if they have to go into residential care they have to pay. This is the case with my Father. He paid for his house when he was 30 over 40 years agom but has no other savings. However flippant live for today renters will get more from the state. In this pathetic society their is little reward for 'prudence'.

Firstly I did not say you would be better of renting. I think if you desire to buy a house now I DO think you would be better of renting for a year or two at least. You bought in 1995 as did I and we got the timeing right, you and I were lucky. My point is that a flexible mobile lifestyle is valid. Dont be boxed in by convention. Take a highly paid consultant with no ties who can travel from job to job and country to country if necessary.

To answer the question of the topic. The fate will be the same either way, you die and you cant take it with you. If you never intend to have children a non-property owning lifestyle is very valid, why tie yourself down if you dont need to and tie capital up when you could either be enjoying it or make it work for you elsewhere.

I agree with you. 1. We are more independant and less reliant on govt and corporations 2. In a disaster situation you can still servive 3. It makes 'personal' economic sense and is good for the environment. It wont happen because the govt and corps will lose some control over its sad little worker bees (ie us) This topic has been covered before, (perfect storm in the classis forum) The Americans need only cover 11% of Nevada with Solar panels in order to meet the entire US energy needs.

Well they are pretty much exclusisively black, the white looters are not sufficiently armed (see previous link somewhere on this thread)! Actually America has many faults but I believe (having lived in the us) that if a black or latino person asked a white person for help and was genuine they would get help. These companies are the lowest of the low, real bottom feeders. They just want to buy your house at BMV and attempt to sell it on for a profit. They were around the last time and see an oppurtunity now. Many of these companies are set up by property investors, the kind that say there is not going to be a crash. Well these types of companies can only exisit in a crash environment.

Personally I dont fully buy into the interest rate argument, I think it is very true that many people have over extended themselves over the perception of affordability. However, if as a result of multiple economic disasters the BOE attempts to lower interest rates I doubt even 0% will save the impending crash. It is all sentiment, nothing more nothing less. Interest rates are a red herring. I think there are equally as many people that would have looked equally at the abolsute amount borrowed as well as their monthly interest payments.

Well I always for one go out of my way to help people even if on lookers look at me as if I am some kind of Alien. It is one of the most up lifting experiences of a human to help someone with out receiving any personal gain. Someone once quoted that 'you are always a slave until you do something for free'

Do you think it is random that the looters on TV are all black with the white guy looking on in astonishment. (CNN video with white man looking incredouslus as a load of black people raid a store) It feeds into the sterotype, however many many Black people were stealing, but I would suggest that there were in proportion of the population the same ratio of white people also engaging in such activities. In those times there was a society and a moral framework. I am afraid in the new 'dark ages' of now there are no such nicities, in the US they worship the god of greed and selfishness. I hope the British society has not stooped to this level if a similar event occured here. I do fell very sorry for the victims.
