  1. Suppose you're right there, also celebrity wedding, prossies, and a divorce. All adds up.
  2. BMA piddly laughable union, 151,000 members Unison 1.3 million members At least use some facts.
  3. I'm aware of the 20yr old paper that a lot of these calculations are based on. Not sure if the research was repeated now the results would be the same.
  4. Tier 2 visa requirements? Good luck with the telemedicine advice on that one to help you extricate your head.
  5. Nice principle. Should they be paid more for treating difficult sick or overweight people? The results/ performance targets from treating these people will be worse. Therefore stands to reason you shouldn't be paid as much to treat the sickest. Or if you do you're poor staff. A surgeon who operates only on the most high risk cases will probably have figures that are not as good as someone who performs boob jobs all day. By your reasoning he must be poor performer. Eradicate his poor performing practice so he only treats nice well patients. Resulting figures will be excellent. Your view is a good one, it's nice in principle and I am being facetious. Reminds me of the yes prime minister sketch from years ago. The most efficient hospital in the NHS with the best performance targets met was one that had closed its doors to patients and was treating no one.
  6. Just for the sake of argument, what should pay rates be then? What do we value a nurse, a policeman/women, fire officer at? In this country it's ok for a football to earn an average of 30k per week but somehow it's not ok for a highly skilled public sector employee to earn the average wage of £26,500 per year. Headline figures of an individual earning 'x' are fine, but they're just that, headline figures. Vast majority don't earn that. What is the amount they should earn then?
  7. Cheers. Personally I don't begrudge these increases. Starting nursing salary: £14,294 http://www.rcn.org.uk/support/pay_and_conditions/pay_rates_201314 Starting junior doctor: £ 22,636 Both below national average. Both on a par with other nearby European countries. Being a synical individual I question what all the press is about. Attack on wages? Excuse for privatisation? If the government is pushing for privatisation of parts of the NHS you can be sure of a few things. 1 - our taxes won't be significantly reduced 2- we'll have to fork out for private medical insurance 3- it'll be the same people treating us in the same places ( only if they're now private they'll be paid shed loads more money) 4- there will be an increasing gulf formed between the have and have nots ( already inequalities in access rates etc but at least it's accessible by all) Personally I feel the press and us seem to be lapping up the propaganda fed by the government. There may be truth to it but I just can't believe anything this government tells me without questioning what the spin is.
  8. Could you direct us towards the source of your figures? Make interesting reading but I can't find any evidence of the type of pay increases you're referring to.
  9. Imagine what the exchequer would receive from NI if we actually paid the VAT owed on dodgy cigs and laundered fuel!
  10. I do enjoy these discussions, - c'mon it's a bit of a push to state that a house is a consumable in the same way as food, energy or petrol. With maintenance, upkeep, and yes taxes aside , it can be sold on after use. At a profit or at a loss. Good luck burning your petrol and then selling on the remaining volatile hydrocarbons and CO2 byproduct. I work, pay taxes and try to make a better life for my family. If I can sell on property in the future at a profit I will - does that make me inherently selfish - possibly/ probably in your eyes but I don't see it like that. Am I honest about that? Yes. Are the rest of you - doubt it.
  11. Petrol - consumable resource Energy - consumable resource Food- consumable resource Housing? It's like comparing apples and oranges.
  12. Definitely agree with above two, renting is the only way to go until you find the right place. We had sold in August, found future place in Feb and moved into it in May. Hold out and you'll find the right place eventually.
  13. The OP states 'it was one of the biggest agents around'. So my guess he's talking about either TR or BT. Both signed up to codes of practice. I'm sure both would take a formal complaint/ letter seriously. You're right that people allege the practices have been going on for years, however the only way to stamp it out is one agent at a time.
  14. Put end of for a bit of mischief- was banking you'd be the first to take the bait. Law says It is illegal to mislead buyers or sellers in any way. Specifically, you must not give misleading information about: offers for a particular property, or invent bids the existence or status of any potential buyer. A statement that is factually true might be presented in a misleading way. Examples of misleading statements: You cannot claim to have first time or cash buyers, unless you can show why you think this is true. You cannot advertise or claim that you have potential buyers, unless you can prove that this is true. Therefore once again rather than bitch on here - which may be therapeutic, I would advise potential purchasers to question everything and demand to see evidence. This not something you'd advocate? Would you not advise complaining if they found this to be the case?
  15. If you suspect it's falsified do something about it. Call their bluff, go into the office and request to see evidence of the other bid. All bids are logged. If there's no evidence report them to the OFT. End of.
  16. Think the situation is extremely unlikely here with co-ownership. The bank will act to preserve their interests, and so roll rent arrears into the mortgage. If you've got a 50% deposit - you won't qualify in NI for co-ownership!
  17. Have you read any of the posts here?? Serious question???
  18. Valued at 180k in 2005. The price you've payed today is a combination of the inflating ramp in the 2005 market and the current state. I would just be content in the money you've saved by waiting til now. System may be flawed but it is a way of raising the revenue required to run services.
  19. Interested to know that as well, interested college was lead to believe there was an offer at stamp duty threshold. 330k given its size and spec would make it the biggest bargain in BT9
  20. If it is the one highlighted more like 80 yrs + My impression, damp will be a problem. However, you're almost better having it stripped like this to ensure that all the work you do to it is of satisfactory quality. This is a really big property, it's gonna cost a tidy sum. Large kitchen, central heating, 2 bathrooms +/- a couple of ensuites + labour!
  21. Nothing major, broken tiles, areas of possible/future water ingress requiring action. Only after water turned on did the same builder and plumber mate have to sort out cracked toilets, damaged waste flow pipe, cracked shower wastes, leaking hot and cold water pipes. Every radiator valve leaked/ damaged needing replaced. (none of these were visible prior to turning on of services - not even toilet) I predict you'll eat into your predicted contingency and more rectifying issues. You'll also be possibly receiving mail and money demands long after completion. If you complete, first step is to get on electoral register for the property. (helps in the longer term!) You may need letter form solicitor (faxed) like we did to prove change of ownership to allow gas to be turned on. (large outstanding bill left) Leasehold or freehold? If leashold ensure your solicitor gets confirmation the bank has discharged all outstanding ground rent.
  22. Good luck to you. If you haven't already done it, my advice would be to get a builder/surveyor to view it with you. We did, pointed out several issues I hadn't even thought of.
  23. First offer at 45% under RV or asking price 45% under RV? You a cash purchaser? Otherwise with no kitchen you're unlikely to get a mortgage other than some kind of self build to complete the purchase, and if that's the case you fall down the banks pecking order. They are mandated to get the best price but also to go with whowever is likely to complete first for the best price.
  24. Glad the bank has granted you permission to survey the drains etc prior to purchase. We were refused permission for all checks -gas/electric/drains prior to purchase in our case. In our case even things that looked ok needed replaced.
