Scotland and wales have both had reeferendums in recent eyars. England has had only two - the EV referendum and the 1975 one on EU membership. (And London and the NE have had regional referendums too)

History did not begin last month. The roots of this crisis lie in the promise that George HW Bush and James Baker made to Mikhail Gorbachev that if Soviet forces were withdrawn from Europe and Moscow agreed to German reunification there would be no eastward expansion of NATO. Not even into former East Germany. That pledge, made at the Malta Summit in 1990 has been continually broken by NATO which now has members right up to the border of the Russian Federation, even taking in former Soviet republics. Russia has repeatedly stated that it will not accept Ukraine becoming part of NATO. It cannot accept this because it will mean ABMs and other forces within a few hundred miles of Moscow. It believes, quite reasonably, that such ABM deployment will make an American nuclear first strike likely. This is far more dangerous to Moscow than Cuban missiles were to Washington in 1962 and the world nearly went to war then. And there is the additional factor that the Russians have an affinity for fellow ethnics on the wrong side of the border divide. Kiev is killing these people - 2,200 since May 25 and 300,000 have fled across the border. Do you imagine for a nanosecond that if a British community speaking English in say, Calais, would not be the subject of British concern if they were being attacked by French or Germans? And of course, matters were being negotiated right up to the coup funded and planned by Washington on February 22nd this year. And the neocons have since refused to even come to the negotiating table. They have pressed on with their insane war agenda, seemingly oblivious to the fact that Russia has tens of thousands of missiles with nuclear warheads.
