  1. That's what I thought! There was an piece about buying a village:-I bought a whole Spanish village for 45,000 euros
  2. My answer is no and no. But if you want to live in it then perhaps no and yes. 90m^2 seems small. Anyway, flats have no appeal for me.
  3. 'I'm not addicted. I can stop any time.' Mark Carney may have to relaunch QE
  4. I believe it (the so-called bubble) will seem to work for a short time but will then falter and stop. Then back to slow price falls. TPTB will then probably try something else. And so on ...It's pathetic, I think.
  5. The bubble has not gone, imo. The inflation part is over but it hasn't deflated yet as it needs to do. TPTB are trying hard to prevent it from doing so and have slowed the deflation down.I knew that the interest rate promise could not be fully binding. It wouldn't make sense for it to be so:-
  6. Thanks for the info about the North Shore. I'm seriously thinking of retiring oop north in a few years. But I would like to wait until there is a proper fall in house prices in the UK. I'll be looking for a house if and when I do retire.
  7. I must be about the lowest of the low. I'm both a saver and a renter! You can't get much lower than that. I should hang my head in shame.
  8. Maybe people think his promise isn't worth the paper it's printed on. If he broke his promise, could he be sued?
  9. I understand to some extent. But I also disagree. It's not the dying that matters, imo. It's the evil that took place there. Like Jimmy Savile's house. I would feel like throwing up if I was in that house. Thinking back through history in London, say, back to Roman times when the Romans occupied London, there must have been hundreds of violent deaths all over. But, for me, violent death and absolute wicked evil are different.
  10. But of course!I guess there are some good cops. They are the ones who would not be swayed in doing the job by 'incentive'. But the other cops, the not-so-good ones, are the ones who will be influenced by incentive, as you have written.
  11. I think you are being too hard on her. She is expressing her feelings without implying that her feelings are 'correct' or ethical. I have lots of feelings that are not ethical but they are my feelings so if I express them it does not imply my approval of them. Also, I believe the article is a bit tongue-in-cheek. You missed that?
  12. Lambs to the slaughter. In my opinion, anyway. We shall see.
  13. I'm sure all you guys feel sorry for this guy. We should bail him out, I reckon.
  14. Mmm. Thanks. I'm still getting my head around this. I had thought that the present 'average' price (arithmetic mean) was about £160k. It seems it's not that simple.
  15. Thanks for that, Freetrader. I'm surprised that LR would use a geometric mean for house prices. I'm also surprised that the difference between the arithmetic mean and the geometric mean is so large.Mean
  16. However, there is a big and worrying discrepancy betweent the monthly figures and the quarterly report which shows average house prices at about £90k more than the monthly figures do. What causes that, I wonder, and which is the correct one?
  17. Blackpool looks good, imo. About £76k average price. A bit of sea air and, I would expect, nearly deserted in winter. The latter appeals to me.
  18. As a very rusty mathematician, I would say that it is impossible unless one of several things have happened:- They revised figures for GL and not for individual boroughs, or vice versa, or they made a miscalculation, or they have used some sort of jiggery pokery.I would like to learn of another explanation, though.
  19. That sounds like jesuitism, sophistry. If my attacker doesn't understand that it's not a good idea to cut my throat, then I should give him a nice sharp knife and offer him my throat? Pff.
