  1. I'm well aware of Laurejons opinions on other threads, so I totally took him seriously.
  2. It seems that by some peoples reaction, that they equate a socialist government, with living in a socialist economy!! This is the level of intellect we have here on HPC is it??
  3. Ag more rubbish from dishonest Injin! Socialism works fine than you and has been doing for 10,000 years and more. Socialism is still the msot successful strategy for any pre-industrial. Almost all ethnic groups throughout Asia and South America, Australasia etc, have societies based upon common prosperity not individual prosperity. The absence of banks, and a consumer society allow socialism to work pretty well unfettered by greed. It is only in our more complex, numerous and splintered societies that there is a greater shift towards prosperity of individuals, and why Capitalism is seen as the solution, when really it has always been the problem.
  4. Fantastic!! You must be at least 80 years old to have come out with that!!
  5. my, my, my, over 9000 posts and you haven't learnt anything and keep on spouting ridiculous, therefore pointless so called facts!! The average wage is 23K or thereabouts but that doesn't mean that most people earn that does it? In fact half the UK workforce don't earn that much, and guess what a huge proportion of these are FTB, so no!! It wouldn't be very easy at all for "the average couple" to save £35K in one year. Give me strength...
  6. I can't agree with that at all, what a load of old codswallop. I've been to many countries where you're simplistic view of life is non-existent, or of very low importance.
  7. "There is no weal save the commonweal" Or "there is nor prosperity save the common prosperity", high and noble aims from the Labour Party. I know they are not popular but I hate to think where any of us would be without them. Prosperity for all, has certainly given way to prosperity of the few, and is the cause of our current problems, not as some fool said the opposite.
  8. I get you now, but don't worry I won't tell. What has actually changed in the past 300 years is Industrialization. Instead of producing for subsistence and reciprocal bartering, we started to produce for profit, when I say we, I do actually mean, a few very selfish people realised that they could exploit others for personal benefit. This has now been formalised to the point where we don't even see it anymore. The only progression is that when once they would exploit an individual persons time for personal profit they now exploit the aggregated wealth accrued by those caought in the trap for their own benefit, it is an evolution if you like, the searing efficiency of it all is what is really scary.
  9. There is no "reality" everything you see and feel is filtered through the preconceived ideas your brain presents, these are the cultural filters you have inherited and cannot be circumvented. And yes instinctively we are all at the centre of our own worlds, but reasoning and understanding hopefully allow us to surpass those base instincts. Capitalism however, relies on those base instincts to succeed, like I said you make a choice in life.
  10. I can see that you believe that. It's either an under developed self interested attitude which harks inchanged all the way back to cavemen, or it's a reaction against what you see as an unfair society that has been corrupted by greedy capitalists who themselves are little better than cavemen in suits, and as such is just your defence mechanisms kicking in. Maybe you could clarify which it is??
  11. That's quite good, but you very cleverly miss out the overriding concepts of both. Capitalism is all about the individual.... me, me me! Whereas Socialism is about...us! I know for most backward looking apes it's hard to grasp the fact that society, "us" is more important than "me". Thatcher was a staunch believer that there was no society, only a collection of individuals all scrapping to get higher up the hill that is money and power. When in fact not everyone thinks like that, only those backward looking self satisfying cro magnons who shout about free markets and the power of money. To some people this will never, ever change, even when their own children and grandchildren are asking grandad about " what was it like to be able to buy your own house grandad, how did you ever manage to save so much money?" You make a choice in life.. it sounds like you've made yours long ago.
  12. I think that's what a lot of people do for sure, but as I am doing this partly to save my very expensive trips to Chinatown, I'll be sticking to the exotics, chillies, aubergines, peppers, pak choi etc!! Anyways spuds are way too much work for a few quid saved
  13. Got my allotment last week, hours of backbreaking work later I've got a couple of 10x10 plots planted with all the expensive stuff we buy. Still only dug over about a quarter of the total plot so plenty to do. Slightly late to get in on the action this season, but next year will be a blinder. Oh yes £20 per year for the allotment!!
  14. Housing for single men is very limited, unless you are gay, or from some other minority. Islington housing policy anyway! So not much hope for getting council housing I'm afraid
  15. This is really great news.... maybe local people will be able to once again buy decent housing in their own towns. All property investors suck!!
  16. The metaphysics of money.. Actual real money does not exist! Money is a concept used to make payments. Money is not real. Gold is real. Money is a concept that sometimes pretends it is gold, sometimes it pretends it is silver etc etc... Money can be anything... it is whatever you use to "pay" for something. But it is not real in and of itself. As to Erics incessant rant about "Liar Loans", it is just a small part of a very big puzzle, but I guess it has played it's small part just like many others of us have too.
  17. Thanks for the link to the article. It confirms that many people here talk cr*p all day long, and they have no clue about why events happen. All they want to do is play the blame game.
  18. yes yes... all BTL landlords are morons!! Have seen some fantastic deviations from reality on rightmove recently, especially peoperties that have been on the market for months and still they put up the rents!! The last desperate thrash as someone is about to go under! Oh what a glorious summer this will be!!
  19. I thought I read somewhere that some premiership footballers bought up most of the development as investments. Have to laugh at them now!! But they can afford to lose it all at least
  20. Inflation won't change because of the pay rise of 685 lorry drivers.. get a grip!!!
  21. German tourists in Morocco made up only 4% of total tourist numbers in 2006, you are talking bullsh*t!!! And yes I am not a property investor, but I do like to see you suffer!
  22. This is cheap and squalid politics journalism. More disturbing, it's deeply damaging to Britain. Such odious Tory VI tactics deserve to fail. What an absolute piece of b*llocks!!
  23. I know people will never really acept this but, the demise of the trade unions so absolutely has led to the current situation where the disparity between w*nkers in suits and front line staff keeps on getting bigger and bigger. This is what everyone wanted the end of the unions, only now we see that just maybe they did do some good in reigning in exorbitant exec wages at the expense of everyone else. And guess what.. those very same execs with those huge slaries and even bigger bonuses have been the very same ones fuelling HPI. Ah well.. you'd better all get used to it as I can't see it changing just yet.
