  7. My husband went christmas shopping in Oxford on Monday and said that all the shops were very quiet qnd that he, with the Primark being an exception, didn't see any big queues anyware. I went there myself the next day and experienced the same thing. I also couldn't help but be irritated buy the lack of stock in many places........
  8. Now, that's funny! Has made my day. will keep me chucking for the rest of the day.
  9. I can only imagine that the deal is that only the current structure can be renovated, no more building etc. There are building plots within my search area that will only accommodate a 3 bed detached and those plots go for £160K - £250k....... Perhaps this is why the last buyer pulled out? A developer thinking that they had hit the jackpot and then finding out that in fact they have not. Having said all that, it's not a bad price given the size of the plot, if you like that sort of thing.....
  10. I was not offended or insulted, no need to apologise at all.
  11. I got the impression from the budget they gave Phil & Kirsty that they were going to use the money from the sale of their house to buy the 2 properties they wanted.......which is why I was left confused when they bought another house without having sold their own. In all honesty I did not give the programme 100% of my attention, so I probably missed some detail or other.

  13. My father passed away a few years back, he left this world having always enjoyed life. I did once tell him how much the house had increased in value (pre 2007) and his answer to that was that he had no regrets whatsoever, as the worry of having a mortgage would have made it difficult for him to enjoy life.......
  14. They haven't sold it yet, still on Rightmove, offers in excess of £750k which begs the question, where did they get the money from to buy their new home from? Talking of their new house, not much of a downsize in terms of size or price from what I could tell...........
  15. My parents were given the opportunity to buy our council home in London (NW1) back in 1979, for £32k. That same property would now cost near on 1M. They declined the 'opportunity 'as my dad could not bear the thought of owing money to a bank/being in debt..........
  16. You're right! I hadn't even registered the misleading 'title'. Whoever buys the barn will have to spend a hell of alot of money converting it !!
  17. By no means a 'bargain' but perhaps just a little closer to reality?........ Certain parts of the areas I look at you would be lucky to find a 3 bed semi for much under £400k
  18. An excellent example of my findings within my search area of 20 miles radius of Reading. A barn with planning granted to create: 3 reception rooms | Kitchen/family room | 4 bedrooms | 3 bathrooms | About 3000 sq ft. In all in about 3.53 acres. Came onto to the market on 31 Oct 09 guide price £495k, SSTC shortly after and has today come back onto to the market at guide price of £395k. I would assume that a surveyor/valuer has put a dampner on the original asking price??

  20. According to Mouseprice, they have so far sold 11 flats/apartments, all in 2008, for a combined total of just under £2.5 mil.........
  21. Well, my own experience contradicts this statement. I live in the Southeast and my search area is 20 mile radius of Reading (husbands place of work). I have noticed that price reductions have been coming in thick and fast this month. The reductions are bigger and more frequent than at any time this year and yet, this has not been reported or commented on anywhere in the media. Even with the price reductions, some of them as much as £50k since coming on the market, houses are still over-priced which is why we are still searching. I honestly don't feel that our expectations are that un-realistic. We have placed offers on 5 properties since July and out of those, 4 of them are still on the market (at the same prices as they were). Which we take as confirmation that we are not alone in deeming these properties as overpriced. We want to buy a home but we refuse to pay more for a home than we think it is worth.
