ONS postpones to publish the GDP figure

'Potential errors' delay release of GDP figures

The ONS said: "Quality assurance revealed potential errors in some of the detailed figures in the National Accounts data set. To allow time to ensure the statistics fully meet National Statistics standards, ONS has decided reluctantly to postpone publication until 12 July."

Ah quality assurance! Another great example of the bullsh*t that has invaded everywhere in the last 20 years.

Having worked in manufacturing I have first hand experience of QA, firstly in the guise of BS5750 and then ISO9000 both of which meant absolutely sweet FA. As long as you had ticked the boxes and signed the right pieces of paper everything was just dandy although it didn’t mean the product was any better.

Transfer this to the public sector and you have endless scope for fiddling and worse. What the ONS statement really says is that we haven’t ticked the right boxes therefore we need more time to make the figures conform with government standards.

As I said earlier, bullsh*t and for more of the stuff, click:

  • My premonition is the otherwise published GDP would be terrible. People at ONS is now scratching their heads to find out way to fiddle the data tapping Con-Lib ideal GDP rate.

  • Yes, I agree with the other posters.

The assumption must be that there’s something bad in them, and the bureaucrats are trying to figure out a way of covering it up.

As for quality assurance, since when has that stopped them churning out garbage?
