Off topic, iceland firstly take our money, now they smother us in ash…

Iceland's volcanic ash halts flights in northern Europe

you have to laugh... when you figure they take the money people banked, then smother us all in ash... Does anyone know what financial loss will be attributed to this ash? EG houseprices went down because of it? oh it wasnt that it was the snow.. people didnt shop through fear of ash, i can just hear the headlines next month.

  • Noooo, this is terrible news! I’m an estate agent with Knight Fuxtons in prime central London, and I was eagerly awaiting a plane-load of cash-rich Greeks looking for a safe investment to hide their ill-gotten earnings. Also there haven’t been any new arrivals from Russians, Arabs, or Chinese.

Just this morning I received an email from a Nigerian property investor who was due to arrive today to purchase several high-end properties. Unfortunately his flight was cancelled and I had to wire him $2700 by Western Union so that he could catch a connecting flight to Paris and take the Eurostar instead. He should be arriving soon though, I can’t wait to collect my fat commission cheque…..

  • I’ve just been reading up on the history of Icelandic volcanoes, not least because I’m supposed to be flying to China on Tuesday..

Iceland has had some really evil eruptions in the past – one in 1783 killed a quarter of the Icelandic population, thanks to the amount of Sulphur and Fluoride emitted, and is also is reckoned to have killed over 30,000 in the UK. The resultant disruption to the weather ruined the harvests in europe for several years, and the resultant famine provoked the French revolution in 1789..

As for my trip, I’m not confident – this volcano is currently belching up to 33,000ft, and the Jet stream forecast for early next week has it heading straight this way…
