PeanutButter
https://www.theguardian.com/global/2021/aug/22/how-digital-media-turned-us-all-into-dopamine-addicts-and-what-we-can-do-to-break-the-cycle According to addiction expert Dr Anna Lembke, our smartphones are making us dopamine junkies, with each swipe, like and tweet feeding our habit. So how do we beat our digital dependency? Are you addicted to your phone? I certainly have mine wherever I go and check it often. I would like to slow that down but the only thing that works is putting it into a drawer and walking away. Her new book, Dopamine Nation, emphasises that we are now all addicts to a degree. She calls the smartphone the “modern-day hypodermic needle”: we turn to it for quick hits, seeking attention, validation and distraction with each swipe, like and tweet. Since the turn of the millennium, behavioural (as opposed to substance) addictions have soared. Every spare second is an opportunity to be stimulated, whether by entering the TikTok vortex, scrolling Instagram, swiping through Tinder or bingeing on porn, online gambling and e-shopping. The phone appears to be the gateway to the other addictions.
Riedquat
Much as I'd like to believe it (the "can't be without it" obsession with smartphones is something I find very disturbing and creepy) it seems a bit of a leap to a conclusion.
