+1 for caxtonFX

used them for the best part of a year and they are reliable and seem pretty good value. There may be small rate variations between Caxton and other providers but you would probably have to bring in a massive amount to worry about the difference. The key is not to do a simple transfer direct to your UK account, your bank will rip-you off to the tune of around 1-2.5 %.

CaxtonFX is expensive when you compare it to oanda fxtransfer. Do the sums. Lot of brits go for specialised british fx providers and although they cost less then the banks they still rip you off. I could have saved 10Ks of transaction cost if I had used Oanda for my UK business dealing with China instead of banks or UK based fx providers.

I will challenge anyone to come with a better rate.

I'll revisit this and take a look at OandA again.

I am bringing in around 10k Euro / month so even a 0.5% improvement in value would net around 500 quid a year.

I'll buy you a beer if it turns out to be a lot better ;)

...

Also I suppose Paris may feel nicer than London, but if I can avoid both I'm happy, I am not a city kind of person.

Having lived in both cities, I will say quite forcefully that although Paris is prettier, when it comes to the people... Londoners are incredibly kind, generous and respectful (when compared to their Gallic neighbours from inside the Périph) ;)

I suppose it could have been worse. At least Crown Currency was authorised by the FSA.

No, they were registered with the FSA as a small payment institution that offered no guarantee or compensation scheme of any kind. Read the small print.

Here's a business idea...interest rates are 0.5% so we'll offer 5.0%. Lets get people to send some money to an address in Cornwall and we'll promise to send it back with interest in the future. The more people send, the more we can pay off the first lot. It might go on for a couple of years before anyone realises. We can call it Ponzi Savings. Spot the difference.....

I am in the process of opening an account with Oanda, from what I can tell so far what they offer is as close to spot rate as it gets so would be difficult to find anything better I suupose. Then they charge 25USD for international transfer, pretty typical
