According to Forbes, Denmark is the best country to do business.

Denmark is still the best country in the world to do business, according to a Forbes report, but the US has dropped from second to ninth place, while Hong Kong has gone the other way. The UK has fallen from sixth to tenth place, replaced by Ireland, in Forbes's fifth annual ranking of the Best Countries for Business.

The actual report is here http://www.forbes.com/lists/2010/6/best-countries-10_Best-Countries-for-Business_Rank.html

Yet measured as a percentage of GDP, Denmark has the highest taxation in the world - that's all forms of tax, not just income tax.

Isn't that interesting?

Hmm, really?

I have a house there. Although the quality of life is fantastic, the relentless bureaucracy makes me want to scream sometimes.

They have an absolutely colossal public sector and it's an even worse problem than ours.

There's no way on earth Denmark can stay as it is because like everywhere else in Europe, they don't have the money. Simple as that.

Oh yeah? What's their army like? :P

Well, the way things are going with the defence cuts, it'll probably be better than ours.

Although admittedly, I can't think why anyone will want to even bother invading us in a few years' time. Decent agricultural land in some places, maybe. The coal, possibly.

Denmark has quiet a bit of high tech industry as well (like Vestas Wind System)... then Lego etc.

The most important point about Denmark is that an employer can fire anyone anytime - and they are ok with that because

the generous welfare state will step in.

Having said that, the growth in Denmark is pretty slow.
