newbonic
I called into a Derbyshire BS yesterday. Saw a notice that the branch was closing down. Got chatting with the cashier and she told me that 12 branches were due for the chop (they have 49 so it's about a quarter). The staff were being made redundant, and were being asked to apply for any jobs at other branches. She also said that they would stop selling mortgages at branch level. Not sure how this works given that they're a building society. They've been acquired by the Nationwide and their website says: From 30th June 2010, new mortgages will be provided through Nationwide? newbonic
Interesting. Yes, I think the Derbyshire BS looks like it's a dead BS walking - effectively just a front for the Nationwide.
