Some of us on here have relatives with degenerative diseases. Bang out of order.

Totally agree with this. ANYone with motor neurone disease is to be viewed with compassion. I'd not wish it on my worst enemy.

Getting old is frequently no fun, and I can't really get used to people who can despise those who become infirm too. My OH was a man in a million, I haven't encountered many - certainly none on this forum - who can measure up to him..and I don't just mean his outstanding athletic prowess.

On the subject of degenerative diseases. Isn't life itself a de-generative disease ?

Maybe one for it's own thread..

Yeah, of course. My bad.

My husband was a chalk and talk specialist. Hre had an excellent track record in more than international athletics. He taught only A level and had many, many thankyou cards etc. to leaf thru', over the years.

I was NOT a chalk and talk specialist. I used my natual skills and a variety of techniques to make my lessons both memorable and interesting. My principal was not really phased by the schools inspector's appraisal of me as I had 100% pass rate, three years running in A level, and at least 12 % higher than the national pass rate at other times. He would not promote me tho' , 'cos I was " too valuable where I was" so all the numpties got up the ladder whilst I slogged on. so I left, as did many others on my shoes. And they wonder why they get bad teachers. P8ss off the good ones.

You can only take so much sh*t shovelled onto you. The students were all I cared about. I went into bat for them and did my best so they could get good grades. But my class sizes kept inching up, as sadly in the 6th form college where I worked, students picked the teacher of their choice. Flattering for me, but hard to teach more students than others whilst being paid less money.

You're lucky you weren't bullied into using trendy teaching methods rather than doing what you know works.

If I had a pint for every time I heard that, and I'm not just talking about teaching. Anyone with technical competence seems to make the same noises no matter the profession. Is the only solution the 'hopeless-hubby' strategy?

'Chalk-face' workers are treated like skivvies: Pen-pushers and management types get to swan round on fat salaries doing F.All.

I'd happily have continued my job, if the pay had reflected my prowess/ competence. Sadly competence to 'them lot' is whether you can do the trendy crap they dream up. Getting classes to pass exams and actually enjoy lessons... who gives a sh*t.

For this reason I despise Ed. Psych. They are often failed teachers who clamber up onto the parapet to hurl down rocks on the rest of us poor bl**ders.
