1.2 Million Received More Than £15,000 In Benefits In 2007-8

The welfare reform minister Jim Knight,, disclosed yesterday in parliament (12 Nov) that in 2007-08 (and the economy was fine then) 1.2 million households were receiving benefits worth more than £15,000 a year. That is at least 18 billion pounds a year!

That makes the thieving MPs look like one grain of sand compared with a whole beach!

Only the bankers compare. But even here, the banking crisis was a one off, whereas this uncontrolled welfare system happens every year !

For the topic of this forum, I would like to know how much of it is housing benefit. Probably a large share.

As a young(ish) tax-paying working couple, renting privately for years, and struggling to save enough for a deposit, I find unfair that our (high) tax-money went to support so many people, at a time when the recession could not have been used as an excuse for unemployment.
