This thread has presumed that an election is next year. I believe that this is wrong and the Nufascists will have an election this October because 1) GB flunked it last year for October 2) He can announce it in his big speech at the conference. 3) With the minimum 3 weeks for a campaign he will ruin the conservative conference 4) Why have an election after you have put up VAT (1st Jan ) and after scrappage . 5) The Bank of Enlgand is unprepared to continue QE until next year. There are many more reasons but we should focus on an election in October. IMHO

Do you think this will get looked at before lots of misery, or after?

You know the answer to that dear boy.

The UK must reincarnate itself. It must be reborn as an efficient country that can provide the basic (1st world) human needs for itself.

This takes work. Real, actual work and thinking. Lots of brilliant hard working folks in the UK to do the nuts and bolts of this thing (might need a bit of help from the French on the nuke side of things), just needs the leadership and a decent sized bulldozer to get those people that made an industry out of obstruction out of the way.

indeed, why have an election when you have the Civil Contingencies Act 2004? ;)

Part 2: Emergency Powers

The second part of the Act provides that temporary emergency regulations are normally made by the Queen through Order-in-Council or by a Minister of the Crown if arranging for an Order-in-Council would not be possible without serious delay. Such regulations are limited in duration to 21 days, unless Parliament votes to extend this period before it expires. The only Act of Parliament which may not be amended by emergency regulations is the Human Rights Act 1998. There was an attempt by Conservative and Liberal Democrat peers to add a number of other key constitutional laws to the exemption list during the Bill stage, but this was unsuccessful. The laws they tried to protect from emergency regulation were:

* Habeas Corpus Act 1679

* Bill of Rights 1689

* The clause in the Parliament Act 1911 which limits the duration of a Parliament to five years, which was in itself a partial reversal of the term's increase provided in the Septennial Act 1715 from three to seven years

Here's a different view:

Labour will change leader in time for the next election;

Labour will win the next election;

Cameron will be torn apart by his Party (this will also happen if he should win with any size of majority);

Third party votes will increase on a poor turnout;

Labour concentrates on economy for three years, then goes back to the country for a full term endorsement of a Socialist agenda, this being in tune with a country tired of rich people getting ever richer. Labour win a massive majority.

Ha! Great comedy sketch material there mate.

You have failed on a truly epic scale to understand what socialism is really all about.

George Orwell summed it up pretty well, but unfortunately, not many people have the attention span to read his books anymore

Deploying non-lethal sonic hedgehogs?

It's pretty standard crowd dispersal stuff, it's just that the cops are all dressed like it's a BDSM convention.

If they'd rounded them up and started shooting or something - but nothing to see here. "Peaceful protestors get hit with sticks" is par for the course. Shitty, but normal.

Not normal, certainly breaches the 1st Amendment.
