  1. Also related tonight on RTE 1 at 9pm "Future Shock" all to do with the current 'levelling' of the souths property market, should be interesting.
  2. Evan sought HPC out. Is he an under cover HPC'r?
  3. Congratulations.! Just remember to you need to keep wearing the trousers............. most of the time
  4. "Neglecting that there are plenty of high earners with wealthy families just fighting to get a nice house in a nice area which is still much cheaper than its English equivalent." Andy, I don't disagree with this statement entirely, but what it does not explain is the price of the AVERAGE HOUSE in NI being over £200k.
  5. "THREE: These fortunes are not paper only. If you just sold the field at the end of your drive for £250k for someone to put a house on it and then gave that money to your son to buy a house on the Lisburn Road then it is NOT a paper gain. All you have done is make a real gain and then avoided inheritance tax" ONE: In the real world there are very few people with a field at the bottom of their drive. TWO: There are major restrictions on planning applications at present. THREE: Even with full planning permission it would need to be an outstanding site to get £250k for it.
  6. I know plenty of people with £100k plus mortgages on much lower wages than people in the UK. If the economy in England falters the first place to experience cuts will be NI, make no mistake about it. Local govt means local accountability, English ministers won't give two hoots. Houses in NI are no longer cheap. When a correction arrives NI will experience it just like everywhere else and possibly more severely.
  7. Front page of the early BT was interesting. http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/loc...icle2419939.ece I thought the last paragraph was an interesting way to end the article.
  8. Welcome to the thread PM2007, If you don't mind me saying you have a strange outlook for a bear.
  9. HMC dip regularly round my neck of the woods, do you think they would agree that off roading in a 7 seater people carrier is all the rage now?
  10. "Pauline Whittley works for 'Open Door', a Belfast-based housing charity. She says there is a 'dark side' to the property boom: 'Single people can't get onto the property ladder at all. They are priced out of the market.'" Couples are finding it nigh on impossible too.
  11. Thanks for the quick replies. Things not looking too good. I'll get the address details tonight when he gets home from work and post them, I would appreciate it if you could keep an eye on the thread and give your opinions. Thanks.
  12. No mention, however, about the current dilemna facing the housing market in the south. And how it will effect the market up here. (got side tracked and didn't put the last line into the original post)
  13. The article asks all the right questions and demonstrates the amazement which is posted on this site regularly. It accepts that the market is essentially speculator driven, mainly by southern investors, but estate agents feel there is room for considerable more growth this year. "In the meantime, Bridle estimates, prices will rise by another 15 per cent by the end of the year." No mention, however, about the current dilemna facing the housing market in the south.
  14. Would appreciate some info/advice, the info I have is a bit sketchy but I will get exact details on location later this evening. Just had a call from a family member who has recently paid a deposit on a 2 bed flat off plan, sale price £135k. He says it is situated between the city centre and the proposed site for the new super casino, which is why he bought it. Builders want balance of money in May even though he will not take possession until 2009. I have explained it sounds a bit strange to me and tried to give an explanation of the current market fundamentals overall. Having read the posts on this thread I would appreciate any info /opinions on the current state of the market for 2 bedded appartments in the Manchester area as he or I am not from that area.
  15. It has confirmed something I always believed 'cause... My Dad beat your Dad.
  16. Could this be the time to convert sterling into euros? I don't really understand currency trading but from what I have read the dollar and sterling are percieved to be overvalued by many posters on this and other sites. If this is the case would the Euro be a safe haven for my savings? Opinions appreciated.
  17. Sounds like you need a fresh start. If your current lifestyle is not enjoyable maybe you need to consider a complete change of direction. If at first you don't succeed try something different. As for kids, you can only plan so much and you can never afford them, you just learn to manage differently. Cut the cloth to suit and live a little on the edge.
  18. Are we sure the telegraph didn't pinch this story from the Sunday Sport?
  19. A bit of a commuters nightmare if you work in Belfast city centre.
  20. The panic hasn't started yet so indeed these figures would appear to be very realistic. Following some of the links on the prop pin to sites like AAM etc the chat seems to be little or no market action. There is also another 2 potential ECB rate increases on the horizon which should also increase the anxiety of sellers and reduce the buying power of potential buyers. With the banks already tightening the availability of credit, as suggested in the article, it makes for a very interesting summer in the south.
  21. Very interesting read. It would suggest that we are on the edge of a potential correction and it shouldn't take too much longer to materialise.
  22. If the market here in NI holds for 12 months I will be very surprised but if it does my missus and I have decided we are going to STR.
  23. Many posters here feel sterling is overvalued and the Yen undervalued.... Would it be a wise investment to buy some Yen in the near future? I'm new to this currency lark.
