There's a certain yin/yang with Tory & Labour. Labour bring in all the social reforms that the Tories would never dream of, but they usually spend so much money that people vote Conservative as they know they're usually pretty competent with the economy and will fix the mess Labour made. However, with this lot of Tories and the long time both parties were out of power for, the economic damage was a lot worse, and the Tories this time are a bunch of upper class nitwits who have never had a proper job in their lives and don't know what the hell they're doing.

UKIP was there for the protest vote, so as much as I'd like to, I'm not dismissing Labour just yet.

I'm not sure its fair to say Labour were smashed, it was a seat where Labour always did badly and their % of the vote was almost unchanged.

All of Scotland certainly isn't seeing rises. A family member just cut the price of their flat in central Scotland by more than 10% after being on sale for six months without going anywhere.
