  1. It's obvious if you do some research. Perhaps you shouldn't use HPC as your primary source.
  2. Plenty of war going around thank you. But seriously, BAE is now the world's 2nd largest defence manufacturer. And war, it would seem, isn't going to dissipate anytime soon. Rolls Royce has over $100 billion of orders on its books, most from its civilian sectors, i.e. commercial airline engines and marine engines/turbines. Did you know that 60% of the world's airliners use RR engines? There is expected to be a post recession rush for the kind of manufacturing that RR does, hence its strong performance on the markets. Anyway, I was just pointing out that Britain's niche high-tech manufacturing has a better future than the old subsidised, dinosaur industries of yesteryear.
  3. Don't know so much British manufacturing looks good over the next few years - UK manufacturing companies like Rolls Royce, BAE, Glaxo, etc, etc,. look set for a rosy future. The Germans are very reliant on their motor industry and that industry looks doomed in the long term, especially when China and India start producing cars that will retail for £2000/ish. Furthermore, unemployment is far higher in the eurozone, has been for years.
  4. An historian would tell you that no nation could go down the shitter. Amazing how stupid some people can be.
  5. I remember people saying that 25 years ago. Yet the UK, Australia, USA, Spain, etc,. have outperformed Japan and Germany in the last 25 years. I do wonder how these so-called 'manufacturing' economies will cope when India and China start producing cars that can retail for $7000.00. I think they'll end up subsidising themselves to death, for example, the German coal industry.
