But seriously, BAE is now the world's 2nd largest defence manufacturer. And war, it would seem, isn't going to dissipate anytime soon.
Rolls Royce has over $100 billion of orders on its books, most from its civilian sectors, i.e. commercial airline engines and marine engines/turbines. Did you know that 60% of the world's airliners use RR engines? There is expected to be a post recession rush for the kind of manufacturing that RR does, hence its strong performance on the markets.
Anyway, I was just pointing out that Britain's niche high-tech manufacturing has a better future than the old subsidised, dinosaur industries of yesteryear.
