Land Value Tax is the freemarket solution to house price boom and bust. If only Gordon Brown really stoped Boom and Bust and introduced LVT instead of being the bankers bitch.

Ashley S refers to the same LibDems paper that I linked to a week or two ago. Toby Lloyd is one of the few people at Compass who talk sense.
Hurray for LVT, is all I can say, which could and should replace ALL property/wealth related taxes – a flat tax of about 1% on property values could replace the whole lot (Council Tax, Business Rates, Stamp Duty, Capital Gains Tax, Inheritance Tax, TV licence fee, Insurance Premium Tax etc etc).

Restricting the tax deductibility of interest paymentson buy to let to say 50% of purchase price would be an easy option and reduce leverage.
