LJAR
Is the planning system like the NHS? Since in any discussion of housing shortages and high prices - no commentator mentions the obvious that it is impossible to build houses anywhere due to restrictive laws and NIBYism. its like the twilight zone. Because the planners always operate in all our best interests? There would be instant strip-development apocalypse if any planners were interviewed on the TV? Britney's Piers
It's called the overton window. The media and political elites make any threatening idea off limits to public debate, they accuse anyone of bring it up as radical or weirdos. The field of what is acceptable is getting narrower. Ulfar
No we can't have anyone building on land they own that would just be wrong, well that is the cry of those with a nice house in the countryside. Given the state of some of the building developments over the last ten years could anyone self building do a worse job. The countryside that has been farmed is not in its natural state any more than it would be if it had a house on it.

Within the window narrow viewpoints with limited difference are held onto stronger and more vociferously to create the illusion of democratic discourse. Pretty much sums it all up.
