SarahBell
Community and self help groups will now have the opportunity of applying for financial backing to tackle empty homes, with formal bidding guidance to be published shortly. Previously only conventional housing providers could apply. Community-led schemes are already doing excellent work in this area, as well as providing valuable skills for local people, helping them get a job and a roof over their heads. http://www.govtoday.co.uk/index.php/Regeneration/more-power-for-communities-to-bring-empty-homes-back-into-use.html

MrWallace
What, more taxpayer handouts? Handouts aren't so bad when they're there to help ordinary people. It's when rich bankers and rich corporations get massive handouts from my tax money that I get pissed off.
northwestsmith2
There are always empty houses, even in commercial terms you get 5% or so capacity which would equal to commercial residential landlords just on turnover. The empty homes figures and solutions are very weak in my opinion, they need to build more if the government is offering unlimited support to the lenders, the borrowers and ZIRP on top. £100,000,000 divided by £167,743 (Halifax average home price) = 596 average homes. And that's assuming you have no unoccupied homes which is impossible in any situation. Edited September 26, 2011 by northwestsmith2
darwin
Sounds like the old housing co-operative schemes.
