Guest absolutezero
All true...figures courtesy of the ONS and all publicly available for 1-3. Point 4...other EU states have restricted immigration from new entry states, the rest of what I say is blindingly obviously unless you chooose not to look and ask. Evidence. DONKEY2409
So you actually have nothing to say in defence of the Tories then. PS. FACT: The Education Secretary who closed the most Grammar schools was called... Margaret Hilda Thatcher. No, I'm not a natural Tory and I have no time for the current crop at all. But I do believe that socialism as represented by the UK Labour party is, put simply, evil. I also believe that in reality the working class do better under Tory governments than Labour, recent statistics do prove my point. After all, it is not the Tories that have presided over the banking crisis which (funnily enough) represents probably the largest single transfer of wealth from the poor to the rich in modern history

non frog
.... Point 4...other EU states have restricted immigration from new entry states, the rest of what I say is blindingly obviously unless you chooose not to look and ask. The restrictions on EU workers from the newer eastern member states were temporary and must be removed under EU law. Both the UK and Eire thought that it would be advantageous to allow earlier freedom of movement. Proportionately more people went to Eire as it has (had?) better welfare payments (the UK has some of the lowest in the EU) and better job prospects. The falling value of the pound is seeing a reversal of the inflow, either to go home or to a Euro based economy. The main thing that has driven down the wages of the industrial working class has been globalisation. The Blair government introduced a minimum wage to prevent the undercutting of wages. Immigration is needed to bolster tax receipts as the UK population ages and all the oldies start queuing up for their handout and stop paying in. Some aspects of immigration may causes social problems (and jealousy by some lazy feckless Brits that can't be bothered to work I guess) but I think you and many others over-estimate its economic impact by many orders of magnitude. UK population growth overall is mostly due to increased life expectancy - something that is having quite profound economic repercussions.
