SMAC67
It's all too easy to indulage in a retrospective critique of US led proxy wars. However, the Cold War was a real war against the threat of communism, a far greater tyranny than capitalism, and it was a war that really needed to be won.It was South America which produced a flashpoint that brought the world closest to nuclear annihilation Fixed Yeh it was those commie's that were the problem, unlike the fabulously egalitarian capitalist's. So, what's the difference again, both system's rely on a small elite enjoying the fruit's of other's labour whilst espousing the doctrine that the worker's are in charge. Yeh, right. The most dangerous country on planet earth today is the USA, as it disintegrates like the Soviet Union expect fireworks.

The bad news is the worl's full of 'em and so are governments. Only ever a case of picking the least worst. Should Soviet backed communism been allowed to spread to democracies all over the world? Seem to be a few people who'd have you believe they, perhaps, think so but have conveniently managed to not have marched themselves down to the Russian embassy and defect, when the opportunity was there. Of course, it wasn't the right sort of communism, it was overrun by corporatist vested interests or power-crazed despots. Pick your least worst vested interest. I'II take someone with OCD for acquiring zeroes in their bank account other someone power-crazed who wants to be worshipped like a demi-god and isn't immune to the OCD acquisition of bank balance zeroes either. SMAC67
They are all the same, if you are in the "elites" of any system you win, otherwise you lose. On topic, The Shock Doctrine is a good read.
