  1. Is now a good time to buy gold for a quick profit? If so what is the best way? This is my first foray into Gold so be kind
  2. TUESDAY 2 SEPTEMBER HOUSING HELP Stamp duty is to be axed on properties costing less than £175,000 as part of plans to boost the housing market. Hazel Blears joins Jeremy. http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/shows/vine/
  3. Cling film? They didn't have any of that at Tesco's either
  4. At Tesco today they had run out of the special offer beans, and wine, and biscuits etc.
  5. Will it be on Newsnight? They were going to cover Oven Chips Dolly Bird as lead item No
  6. On second thoughts - is this not all just paving the way for drastic rate cuts given the Blanchflower coverage the day before?
  7. To summarise... The Chancellor of the Exchequer in an interview today said "we're up a Brown creek, not only do we not have a paddle, we also have no idea where we are headed. Put your head between your knees and brace for impact"
  8. Did anyone catch the woman interviewed by Declan on Beeb Breakfast? She said 35% fall from peak by 2010 - Declan then crapped himself and we were treated to a rousing chorus of "that's only one prediction!" I wouldn't mind if it was a lone voice in the asylum but a quick glance through this site will tell you it's NOT. Mind you, I'm liking "if your home has fallen by a tenth I'll bring you the details..." Like what exactly? You're screwed, either stay put and hope you can keep your job/marriage/lifestyle intact and pay the damn thing off.
  9. The home, which was empty at the time, is owned by 82-year-old Raymond Howlett who had spend the past 30 years collecting “odds and ends”, which included wood and tyres, and leaving them in his garden. Now I understand. The home belonged to Mr Barkingatthemoon who made it as flammable as possible before nodding off with a woodbine in his hand... The property is now offered for sale by Messrs Needin Commission NowPlease
  10. http://www.rightmove.co.uk/viewdetails-228...=2&tr_t=buy In the words of the late great Douglas Adams "It's time to bang the rocks together guys"
  11. Only an ass would make a joke as bad as that
  12. I am writing this as an irate stay at home dad. My daughter has been fed on Farley's milk (made by Heinz) since she came off the breast. Heinz have just relaunched Farley's milk only now it is called Heinz Nurture - I have just returned from Tesco's, whereas Farley's milk was £4.99 for a 900g tin the 'new' Heinz Nurture is £7.99 for a 900g tin - an increase of 60%. I have just got off the phone from the Heinz careline where I queried what was 'new' in the product - the representative I spoke to told me it was "exactly the same as the old Farley's but has 3 new ingredients - specifically some extra vitamins and something to counter constipation and make it closer to breast milk" I queried what these ingredients are to justify an extra £3 per tin but wasn't given an answer I then said that it felt to me like either Tesco or Heinz were profiteering by introducing big price rises under the auspices of generally high inflation to be told that "the product has been re-launched as a 'premium baby milk' and that they were sorry if I felt I could 'no longer afford it'" Which got my goat somewhat. Massive own goal for Heinz really - Farley's milk was one of the cheapest on the market, some of the MILF's at Mum and Tots are boycotting all Heinz products! I even mentioned this to the guy on the 'careline' (eg. ring us, we'll prove that we really don't care...) I told him that whilst I may only have say 6 months of buying baby milk left I have a whole lifetime of buying heinz products.
  13. An excellent example, I doff my hat to you. I particularly like the shots of the rear, especially the way the house seems to lose 80% of it's garden in one shot. Stunning pic of the front too - I found it actually made me nauseous after staring at it for a while (but that could be my coco-pops not sitting well) I have been scanning my RM email but have noticed for the last week or so very little 'new' coming to market. Hundreds (and I do mean hundreds) of places listed with a new agent at the same price. one in particular the wife and I have our beady on, but it's still up for £235k which is £85k more than I would pay - after 9 months with one agent at that price they list with another but now it's 'chain free'! Whooppee! I'll go out and mortgaged up to the ying yang straight away... I don't understand the mentality/psychology of EA's - the second EA in the example above is a small independent, I would have thought it was in their interest to only list places that were on for a fair price or where the vendors were motivated to sell.
  14. I tried adjusting the lights in the kitchen but they are positioned directly behind the food prep area. I have started to take bulbs out and am putting up with the Mrs complaining that the lights look stupid, though I have been told in no uncertain terms that "they are going back in when we have people round" - but that's women for ya. I was costing up some low energy bulbs - supermarket doesn't sell the fitting I need (bayonet) which is blinking typical, I've found some online and they retail at £4 each so will probably stump up the £56 quid and replace the whole lot. Kitchen lights will set me back another £60 - I don't know enough about these things, is it worth the spend to save the money? If I do it I'm taking them with me though, does that make me a pikey?
  15. Just had our bill from E-On - £409 (ouch) Mind you it covers the 6 months the wife was home on maternity leave and new baby etc. So telly on all day, electric heater on (ironically to save using the heating oil because of the expense) I was expected a big bill but not that big. Which brings me onto my major rant and renting, or a rental rant if you will. Because of the stupid fittings in the house I have to burn 5 x 40 watt bulbs for the pleasure of a light at the top of the stairs. To light the kitchen so you can see to chop food etc. I burn 6 x 80 watt bulbs. Stupidly we opted for washable nappies so the machine goes round every day, tumble drier to turn around baby clothes and it all mounts up. It does pee me off with the lights though. I am of the opinion that landlords should be forced to make their properties as energy efficient as possible. Thankfully I've spent the day chopping up old oak benches from the local pubs beer garden so have a couple of weeks free fires in the winter
  16. Maybe I should have opened this thread up completely to trick photography - that is a stunning pic! Keep em coming! I intend to send the winning EA's a certificate. edited to add - just shown the wife, she said it's not very wide either. we paced it out on the kitchen floor (foot square tiles on floor, very handy!) then factored in work surface and units...I must say I'm impressed with this find.
  17. I would have to be paid that amount to live in Thetford...
  18. I've been desperately hunting for my fave photo - a very dated house, described as "in need of modernisation" with a single bed with throw over it and a zimmer frame in the corner.
  19. Nah, I want bendy walls, wonky furniture, gardens that run for miles, Bad fish eye snaps to be precise. I also thought of a few new categories The most inappropriate item to include in a pic if trying to sell a house (must be from RM, no cheating!) The saddest sight (quite an open category, could include the dated house that was someones pride and joy, the "my parent just died and I want to sell this and get rich" shot (best example of a recently "vacated" home) Any others with examples?
  20. As above really. Looking through my RM email tonight i thought it was time we had a thread to award the most creative use of photo's by an EA. The first category is for the fish eye lens that makes a room look bigger. http://www.rightmove.co.uk/viewdetails-182...=2&tr_t=buy Admire the angle on the bedroom furniture, simply divine... Photo 4 (the lounge) is a masterpiece in making a house look like you're in a fun house at the fair. I'm open to suggestions as to other categories and welcome all nominations. The winning EA's will receive a diploma recognising their achievements accredited by the University of Lagos.
  21. vig: the interest payment on a loan from a loanshark (short for "vigorish"). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vigorish
  22. I noticed RM was down, what's the betting property bee won't work when it comes back on? OK it works now..takes tin foil hat off and puts it away...
  23. AN APOLOGY Steve Firstly I am not a trolling wind up merchant; I just didn't believe what you said. I have spoken at some length to people today and now I am a wiser man. I thought that surely no high street rental agent would accept payment by cash but it would seem this (though far from being 'the norm') is not so out of the ordinary to fall into the 'instant bullsh1t' category. I was wrong, and I apologise. I thought about PM'ing you but having read some posts if you added me to ignore you'd never get it (unless that works on forum posts in which case I might as well go out and p1ss into the wind anyway) So I stand corrected, I'm not so up myself that I am above admitting when I am wrong, publicly if necessary. I apologise for any offence. More importantly I apologise for taking this thread away from the topic, the quicker we can educate the masses the sooner this crash can happen and petty flame wars and willy waving and seeing who can p1ss up the wall the highest will not make it happen faster. It is, I am sure we all agree, a lot better all round if this is sudden and hard rather than long drawn out and suffering (maybe not succinctly put but you know what I mean)
