  1. What exact bit am I dreaming about? Are you disputing that the BoE base rate will fall to 5% this summer or that mortgage rates will fall shortly afterwards?
  2. Rates will be coming down though, they're not wrong. The BoE base rate will fall to 5% in June or August & as that slowly falls, so too will mortgage rates. Not sure what happened to the "fear phase"?
  3. Yes I agree with it. Hope it is legalised in the UK.
  4. But then Barclays reduced 2 & 5 year fixed rates so they aren’t all raising rates
  5. No @Stewy it seems very unlikely that the interest rate will be cut this week. Some say June, some say September but most seem to think August now for the first cut.
  6. Why don't you visit MN to find out? Could always change your username again. Re multiple rate cuts ...hmm... I guess it's only looking like a couple this year now?
  7. Ok so occasionally people do get useful information from surveys I won't deny that. However, I do stick with my original comment that most of them are a waste of time. They scare the pants off FTBs but most only list what problems a property of that age could have or may have and are written using copy & paste set phrases. We see that all the time over on Mumsnet where people post sections from their surveys. My main point is that I think buyers are less willing to pay for them these days because they have become more savvy to how lacking in meaningful information most of them are. It's a perceived lack of value, even if (as you say) sometimes they can be useful. Potential buyers often prefer to get builders round to check what needs doing or specialist surveys re damp etc if they suspect that might be a problem rather than a general property surveyor.
  8. I didn't bother getting a survey beyond the basic valuation one last time we moved house, neither did our buyer. Nothing to do with cutting costs as suggested by @70PC Everything to do with most of them being a waste of money with so many caveats they are next to useless. In most cases it's only worth paying for one if you intend to use it as ammunition to get your seller to knock a few quid off the price. Having said that, probably would get one if I was ever buying a very old house but for newer houses, no.
  9. They could get a provisional driving licence if bothered for £34 (would need ID but could use a UK birth certificate)
  10. You seemed to be drawing a link between them adding information and your comment but they were posting on Mumsnet and you on HPC so there was no connection. Not offended in the slightest.
  11. Regardless of when they actually posted it the fact remains that they have been overpaying for ages so you were wrong in your assumption. Doubt they only posted that because of what some guy on HPC said at around the same time. Tbh it's odd anyway to mock someone just for making that post - they haven't said or done anything wrong or stupid.
  12. You don't come across as misogynistic at all in your general comments @Bob8 I find your comments about MN interesting (& other people's opinions on MN too). I agree that posters on the MN property forum are generally quite realistic, apart from the obvious trolls of course. It's easy to say people should overpay on their mortgage and it does make economic sense, but not everyone can afford to make good financial decisions all the time. We've always known it's good to overpay on the mortgage but haven't been able to afford to most of the time.
  13. I think MN was worse even a year ago but the mods are doing a good job in my opinion of being active now in removing any offensive posts and to all men saying MN posts are discriminatory against men, I do think you have to challenge these things if you're bothered about them. If people don't complain about sexism or racism or whatever then it gets allowed to stay around a lot longer than if they do. It seems there is a lot less moderation on this site unless I'm about to be surprised and kicked off for going off topic or something.
  14. They literally say that they have been though? They say in the thread "Luckily we will be ok with a rise as we've been overpaying our current mortgage to get used to higher payments."
  15. As I say Mumsnet is a site that attracts mainly middle class women and I happily admit I fall into that category. I do appreciate my privilege. Middle class women may not be your favourite demographic but still, I believe the majority of posters who talk about employing cleaners or having £1M houses are not doing it to "stealth brag" to other people on the site but more because it reflects their life.
  16. Maybe you would be surprised how many people have cleaners, it's not that unusual. Million pound houses more so but Mumsnet is a site that attracts mainly middle class women & a £1M house is just a 3 or 4 bed house in many parts of the South & especially London (or even just a flat in London). Though I think you are exaggerating slightly as most of the properties linked are not as expensive as £1M. People do provide links to much cheaper houses all the time, asking for advice.
  17. That thread was a bit nuts especially as Reading isn't posh so it was more like spot the odd one out. I find it hard to believe that someone is really considering so many different areas with no clue about them and think the best way to decide which one to pick is to ask on Mumsnet. But hey, could be real.
  18. I think you are seeing things through a negative lens. Just because someone doesn't know what to buy their cleaner for Christmas doesn't mean they are showing off about having a cleaner. Just because someone links to their £1M house, that doesn't mean they are necessarily trying to stealth brag. It could actually be as simple as they don't understand why their house isn't getting any viewings/interest. Probably the price!
  19. Yes I must be because the vast majority of the threads I see do have the suggestion withing the advice given that the price might be too high. Sure you get all the other advice too around making the house and garden more attractive without spending loads of money, but that's good advice because many buyers are influenced by first impressions etc (maybe women more than men unless that's my prejudice speaking). You see it as a joke on here but many of the women giving advice have successfully bought and sold several properties themselves. And the bottom line of reduce the price if you're not getting offers/viewings will be made at some point on almost all threads over the last year. That is sometimes ignored by the OP but often taken on board, plus maybe some people need to sit with the idea for a while before realising it makes sense? I think sentiment has changed on Mumsnet as they have come to terms with the changes in the market.
