  1. You only need to swap into fiat if you want to purchase something but once the infrastructure is in place you'll just be able to pay with crypto in whatever is your one of choice. While atomic swap smart contracts could in future negate the need for exchanges. https://www.investopedia.com/terms/a/atomic-swaps.asp
  2. Precisely. We only have to look at the message Satoshi wrote in the genesis block to understand why it's here and why it's flourishing.
  3. Hopefully one of the others who joined recently like @Buffer Bear can confirm their expereince joining. For me there was no issue on either platforms. Was years ago though and their regulations may have changed. 🤷🏻‍♂️
  4. Interesting, I never had to do that. When I joined it was just to upload an image of my ID.
  5. Good article on Bitcoins network BB. The robustness of the network can be seen checking Bitcoins uptime: https://www.buybitcoinworldwide.com/bitcoin-uptime/
  6. Well the best way to learn is to get your hands dirty, and it's great to hear that you're willing.
  7. You're welcome. Please let me know if you do. I'd be interested in that.
  8. https://store.blockstream.com/product/lightning-sticker/ It's a walkthrough to setting up your own lightning payment node to purchase from the Blockstream store, basically to demonstrate the power of lightning.
  9. You'll set up your own lightning node (Bitcoin layer 2) and purchase stickers from the Blockstream store. Lightning is instantaneous payment.
  10. I setup my own lightning node 3 years ago on Docker using the following method. https://medium.com/@dougvk/run-your-own-mainnet-lightning-node-2d2eab628a8b
  11. No idea never watched GoT. But I was on bitcointalk.org before and after that hodl post was posted.
  12. This is an intersting graph with the number of addresses holding more than 1000 coins spiking upwards. They must be large institutions:
  13. This is the post with the accidental miss-spelt title that it originated from: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=375643.0
  14. I fear his position is now too entrenched. He's resentful of others that he didn't buy in 2013 so he'll double down on ignorance.
  15. It was a typo from bitcointalk.org but I've heard others starting to joke as above. 😀
  16. If it's any consolation a lot of people initially dismiss it. Michael Saylor did and so did Pomp. I think you need an open and curious, questioning mind to dig in when you first hear of it. I take your point on the religious fervour. For me it's because this is website focused on individuals priced out of housing looking for answers and a solution. And trying to get across to others that this MAY be a possible solution to their predicament it may come across as preachy?
  17. True. A full on bear market will really test the strength of any newbie. Been through 2 myself I know you just block out the noise and hold on for dear life (HODL). 😀✊
  18. Thanks for the advice. If the fall comes I'll double down and buy even more.
  19. I think you'd find the Raoul Pal and Pomp interview linked above by myself and @Buffer Bear interesting as they going into alts and what they discuss makes sense and aligns with my own opinions.
