Persimmon reports strong growth

Isn't a persimmon a type of fruit. What's it got to do with houses?

Anyway, my parents bought a house on a half-finished Persimmon estate in the 90s. I was 11 so still at home. The plot next door was being built when we moved in in summer. They got as far as the ground floor then suddenly disappeared over winter for months on end. They didn't cover up any of it so over months what was supposed to be the floorboards of the ground floor became weathered and started to look rotten.

Then suddenly they were back and continued building on top of all this damage without replacing anything. Rubbish would get thrown down inside the cavity space in that and the other builds as well. My dad said that was so they could save money on transporting the rubbish off-site.

I was horrified and felt sorry when the neighbours moved in that they had no idea what they actually sitting on.

Just heard that 45% of Persimmon's sales are through 'Help to Buy'. Wow.

Let's just say that's around the same percentage as which we are running to aswell. I expect most the housdbuilders are on similar percentage. First time buyers are pretty much using htb, and the other is made from cash buyers (inheritance and downsizes I would guess)and housing association sales

I work in this sector, and it is well known to stay clear of any jobs with them, they have a huge staff turnover due to the way it's run. The comments that guy has been recorded saying are pretty much true speaking to other former employees of the company. Shows you the scale of the issue with a poor quality they are producing but still making huge profits, people just don't research what they are actually buying still.

Likewise hamish - our practice (architecture) were actually 'let go' by them because we challenged their principals. A blessing if you ask me. Luckily I wasn't directly involved.
