Advice For A New Business Import Investment

Hi all, thought I'd post this on the main forum.?

I have a house fund, not masses, about 50k, but it's all tied up in my business sitting there doing nothing as I still can't afford a house.

I approached a company from Spain in my line of business who sell a few things hard to get here and a bit different. It's basically some specialist construction materials. I asked them if they have a UK distributor and no, they don't.

I don't have any experience of importing and wondered if anyone here can steer me in the direction of what I need to learn about contracts, logistics, coping with currency exchange rates etc. I'd like to get exclusive rights from them. It's unlikely to make me rich but I fancy doing something a bit different and I know enough to be able to give technical support for the products. I'm already VAT registered and run a limited company.

Any help much appreciated fellow hpcers

What about just being their agent?

Take a commission on sales and they do all invoicing, logistics and take the credit risk. If you could get 10-15% of sales with exclusivity to all UK business under contract it could work out much better. A lot of extra risk to running your own distribution operation shrinkage, bad debts, failed deliveries and cancelled orders.

If it's desirable to have stock in the UK get them to put it with a third party logistics co and you offer to oversee it.
