cashinmattress
sad state of affairs really. What would Mr Marx have to say about the destruction of family and substitution of religion with rampant self centric consumerism as a construct for social control? InlikeFlynn
Perhaps this figure is explained by the increasing numbers of stay at home fathers? This is not the 1950s.
Guest eight
not sure the jobs are out there that can cover the childcare bills. Plenty of childcare jobs, but it's not very well paid.
Executive Sadman
Why is it a sad state of affairs? I consider being a house wife or house husband a productive job. Its something people would otherwise pay someone to do, allocating someone else to do that labour. Sending people to college for non-degree's is a sad state of affairs and completely unproductive, not this.

I thought someone posted on here that in the USSR both parents had to work to make ends meet? Hardly a utopian Marxist society.
Democorruptcy
Debt slaves to bankers due to joint income mortgages 1997 average house £59k lending criteria 3 times main income plus 1 times second income = 3 x £17k + £8k = £59k 2013 average house £160k lending criteria 4 times joint income = 4 x ( £25k + £15k) = £160k Apply 1997 lending criteria to 2013 wages = 3 x £25k + 1 x £15k and average house = £90k lots more women could then choose to stay at home. Those women who work would have a second income to spend instead of servicing debt with it.
