  1. Regardless of the legalities, extreme events can lead to illegal acts, and I wouldn't want anything of mine in SocGen's hands once the SHTF. Remeber the story about the looted BCCI safe deposit boxes posted a couple of nights ago by another poster - if true, that's a scary example of having faith in a legal structure that still went wrong.

Personally, I'd still switch out. I closed my Soc Gen account several years ago - they're a good bank, but forthcoming events might be beyond even them to police.

    +1

leicestersq and tbstat2000 are probably right on what they say.

But I'm with you on this one. As soon as it collapses they'll

pull all sorts of small print out. Hell, tbstat2000 is picking it apart already!

  2. Is that correct? If you have paid for assets they belong to you dont they? Selftrade might administer it, but those assets belong to the buyer do they not?

I dont think that creditors, if the bank fails, can grab those assets. They might be able to gain control of selftrade, but not loot the holdings of individuals.

Unless someone can tell me different?

But what about all those ETF's that suddenly everyone was denied access to when the lehman event happened. I remember a lot of Moneyweek readers (including Merryn Sommerset-Webb) were shocked at how all their investments nearly went up in smoke out of the blue and there was nothing they could do about it.

So this time round, I'm not taking any chances

  3. if anyone on here has got a Selftrade ISA I'd suggest you get your money out pronto!

Selftrade is one of the UK's largest execution-only stockbrokers and is a trading name of Talos Securities Ltd, a subsidiary of Boursorama, one of Europe's leading online stockbrokers and part of the Société Générale Group.
  4. oh dear...

Selftrade is one of the UK's largest execution-only stockbrokers and is a trading name of Talos Securities Ltd, a subsidiary of Boursorama, one of Europe's leading online stockbrokers and part of the Société Générale Group.

Time to empty my Selftrade ISA

Forget about a 'Lehman event' I'm more concerned about preventing a personal 'IceSave event'!

  5. BTP's now 6.12, were 6.40 this morning, ECB is buying Italian and Spanish bonds right now.

I think I read somewhere that if the yields hit 7% it's mathematically impossible to pay off the debt as it's reached a point where the interest accumulates faster than it can be paid off. Dunno how true that is.

But if it is, are we hours away from the 7% mark? And if so, what actually happens at that point?

  6. Been to building society, all looks good. Got to go back and get 'agreement' tomorrow once they've 'put all the figures in'

I'm guessing that they can't see how much I've got from the agreement as it'll be about 65% of the amount I've offered (the other 35% is from savings)

Please don't tell me they'll want to see my bank statements for the other 35% ?!

  7. What disrespect have I shown or narrow mindedness have I shown?

I think its all in your mind as I dont see anyone else complaining about me its just you.

But let me point out this is HPC not Mumsnet with hugz et al so things work differently here compared to other forums.

However to settle your mind, I'll go on record here becuase you dont know what else I have said or done away from this forum and say its a great shame whats happening right now in the hope you are no longer perturbed. Feel better now? :D

BTW if I was so disrepectful for things like this event, why have I taken the time in the past to be a member of the British Red Cross and have a certificate of commendation from the head of the British Red Cross for my Search & Rescue skills? Food for thought. B)

    No, you're definitely a disrespectful TW4T

  8. PANOR-AMA

"Everyone knows that evil spirits can be summoned through evil and profane practices (similar to those that Gnostic magicians used to engage in, according to Psellus), and filthy abominations would occur in their presence, as during the rites of Priapus in times past or in the worship of the idol named Panor to whom one sacrificed having bared shameful parts.

Nor is any different from this (if only it is truth and not fiction) what we read about the detestable heresy of the Knights Templar, as well as similar notions have been established about witches, whose senile woomanish dementia is often caught causing them to wander astray into shameful deeds of the same variety."

    Blimey! Give it a rest!

  9. This has got to be an easy way for the average man on the street to make some money tomorrow, buy shares first thing tomorrow morning, sell them tomorrow afternoon just before close. Going to stick my money where my mouth is and do it.

(just watch the share price dive tomorrow though now ive said this!!)

  10. Now I've just watched newsnight and some more MP's deny this and deny that, but all I really hear now, is them saying: -

'HA HA HA! you haven't caught me and ill just stab who ever in the back. I think you, the public, are stupid thick idiots and im so clever - look at me pull the wool over your eyes!'

Apparently, this Byers or Hewitt or whoever said something along the lines of I was only exagerating, i take it back!?!?

I mean, god, these politicians think we're thick - how absolutely arrogant, vile and CORRUPT.

  11. Just watched BBC News and watched some random MP's saying how terrible Hoon, Hewitt, whatever are. Oh, how holier than thou they are!!!

Thing is theres no doubt they're corrupt too! They just havent been caught out.

Labour, Conservative, whatever, it doesnt matter, none of them care about the population, its all about money, money, money. Oh my god I'm so angry. I'm so angry because theres nothing we can do, whoever wins will continue to do the same.

Maybe its always been like this, I dont know.
