I earn around 23,000 a year have a 3 year old daughter and my wife stays at home to look after her , We receive £20.30 a week child benefit a week and thats it . I dont expect anything more but am beginning to wonder if I am doing anything wrong because it seems to me that people I know and I read about are recieving alot more ! and p.s I dont live on housing benefit or council house !

I work hard, earn an ok wage (about average ,what ever that is!) live in a tiny two up two down with my wife and small child , now across the road is a small development of a lot larger three bedroom semis (which the developer couldnt sell) which are now lived in by council tennants who mostly dont work and have loads of kids. I cannot afford to move to a bigger house and therefore cannot afford and got no room for another child , I will never be able to get a council house and dont want or expect to be funded by the government but it is starting to get to me that if you no how to play the system you can live a lot better on sitting back and doing nothing on the taxes that I and everyother working person pays .

Having lived in the same house for a long while now and unable to afford to move I felt I just had to make a comment about the unfair benefit system I see around me every day , I work hard have small children the wife now works part time but we just get by (just !!) , but just down the road there is a new private development off houses (that they tryed to but failed to sell!) are now frequented by council tennants , most have no jobs others are single mums,the houses are twice the size and alot nicer than our pokey little terrace !, Another couple I no bought there council house off the council then sold it for a nice profit years later ,apparantly they are keeping the money for a pension (he is on disabillity ), and then six months later gets another council house nearby !! ,I also no alot of people who are renting that live as a couple yet claim benefit as a single mother and well off familys owning 2nd homes then having there kids or members off there family live there courtesy off the government ! In a way I dont blame them for doing it thousands have been getting away with it for years I am just so frustrated the government and councils have not done anything about and just let our hard earned taxes thrown at people who's only purpose in life is to play the system .
