Keep talking. I always yawn when I'm interested. -
I'm betting this is some sad 40yr old virgin living in his мать's basement with a CB radio fetish. If this really was a top secret sleeper agent message, it blows.

Fat Fingers Wiped 9% Off Bt, Hays & Next Shares
JimDiGritz replied to JimDiGritz's topic in House prices and the economy
Haha, exaclty maybe Goldman Sachs could force small children to climb into the bowels of their supercomputers and dislodge spurious trades made by the HF trading software.... -
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/markets/7963202/Circuit-breakers-kick-in-to-halt-strange-trades-on-London-Stock-Exchange.html Basically another case of a traders fat fingers meant that billions is wiped off the FTSE accidentally. HF trading algorithms may also be to blame... this is getting more absurd by the minute.

They Just Could Not Stop Taxing (£250 A Year To Park)
JimDiGritz replied to Mega's topic in House prices and the economy
This type of bizarre taxation is inevitable. As soon as councils have their central funding reduced, they either have to sack staff or increase taxes to cover the shortfall. -
eBay is the way to go - that's where I would sell mine if I ever wanted to liquidate. Obviously you need to consider the risks - fraud & security.

Impact Of Software Homogenization On Job Security.
JimDiGritz replied to wonderpup's topic in House prices and the economy
I would agree in principle, when the tools used to perform a specific duty are not only standardised but also include within them industry wide pre-defined templated work instructions then yes, you will see less and less difference between how those people perform their duties. -

New Solar Conversion Process
JimDiGritz replied to Ologhai Jones's topic in House prices and the economy
The real problem is that oil cannot be replaced by solar or any other source. Why? Food. Food production today is almost entirely a matter of converting fossil fuels to food, as solar energy isn't enough alone to make the fertiliser and drive the machines and transport. It aint gonna end well. -

China's Export Earnings "grim"
JimDiGritz replied to AvidFan's topic in House prices and the economy
I disagree, If China wants to rule the world, it'll have to be a proper totalitarian dictatorship first. -
Blimey, I knew buying organic was expensive...

Sure. We managed to progress from Neolithic to industrialised civilisation at a fair pace because of childishly easy to reach energy (coal) and minerals (Tin, Copper etc) all within a few dozen feet of the ground beneath our feet. Our successors will not have this. They will have wood, and bio-matter. There is no way they could achieve mass-industry, totalitarian agriculture or space flight with the meagre pickings left near the Earths surface. There is also no way they could drill in the Gulf of Mexico for the last hydrocarbon deposits with steam engines. We are the last evolutionary species to escape the Earth's atmosphere.

So? Of course the planet will still be here - even if we nuke our selves silly. In another few hundred million years maybe another sentient species will emerge on Earth.... of course they will never progress technically out of their middle ages, but that's another story. Humanity survives in a rather narrow climate band, of course we can endure extreme heat and cold, but mass agriculture requires a certain range of weather. Whilst I haven't looked at the evidence of man made climate change, it would be churlish to believe that another climatic shift will never ever occur again....and also it would be churlish to assume that we are having no impact whatsoever on the climate.

Incredibly incorrect. Our entire 'western' civilisation is dependant on oil. It the most dense form of readily available energy that we have at our disposal. With an EROEI ratio of c.20:1 it can't be bettered. Ergo, every other currently available energy form is inferior. If we resort to renewables we are looking at EROEI of <2:1. Mass industrialised civilisation cannot be sustained at an average EROEI of 3:1 or less. Show me one supply chain or food stuff that does not rely on mass hydrocarbon energy. As for well.. sure. Compared to our pre-historic non mass-agriculture having hunter gatherers we are super 'wealthy'.. is that the norm you are suggesting that we return to ???
