We just brought back $85k last Friday at $1.45. HOW STUPID (and out of pocket) do I feel given today's exchange!?!?!?!? I've been watching it go up and down for ages and then the second I take the plunge, it strengthens like there's no tomorrow. That's currencys for you, as the last chap said. Good luck with it.

Does anyone have any opinions/advice to offer on the Investec High 5 account? I am looking for something with reasonably short access and at the moment this is giving 4.47% gross but I know nothing about them and am just not sure. Both my partner and I have £50k each to bank (well, to take away from Ingdirect!). Thanks all for your opinions.

Carseller, you mentioned that you though the dollar could be about to turn... do you mean 'about to turn from it's current stronger position to a weaker one again' or do you mean 'about to turn from the last few years of weak position to a much stronger one' . Sorry if I'm being a bit thick

Does anyone know (or think they know) anything about what is going on with the dollar right now??? It has really strengthened (or the pound has really weakened) very recently. I'm no expert in anything financial and could use some guidance. I have approx $100k in an American bank right now and the rest of my savings in pounds. We were planning to emigrate to the States within the next year or two and stupidly failed to send the money when the dollar reached $2.11 to the pound (idiots I know). Anyway, our visa specialist is now telling us that it is likely that the dollar will just keep getting stronger and should plateau at around $1.50. This is my worst nightmare and would put a definite stop to the emigration. Any thoughts on it at all anyone???? Thanks!
