Is there any way to find out how much a house was purchased for in N.I?

I had a look at land registry online & it seems you have to apply for a pack to see stuff online.

You can walk in off the street to the Land Registery office and search a single house for £3.50. If you want to do it over the phone, it's £15.

It usually costs £7 as it's £3.50 for a map search and another £3.50 to look at the title.

There's also the caution that although a change of ownership needs to be registered it doesn't need to happen straight away. You'll recall that unfortunate bit of business a few years ago where due to "an administrative hiccup" the title of Ian Paisley jnr's holiday home remained with Seymour Sweeney's wife sometime after Mr Paisley bough the property. Happily, the matter was resolved to the satisfaction of all parties.

Haha, yes, I remember that. I presume if the houses have been on for over a year though, that it would be registered by now.

Did I not read in another thread on here that the actual price of the property does not have to be listed on the files with the Land Registry?

You can hit lucky sometimes as some solicitors will include the price. I've done 3 searches - 1 had the 2004 sale price (nothing on the other 2) - £152,000. This house has recently (3 months ago) been reduced from £300,000 to £249,000. and the owner is a bankrupt.

Charges on a property are a useful bit of information. You'd be surprised at the hidden issues with many properties - a solicitors dream.
